$125 Six-Max Five-Card Pot-Limit Omaha
Day 1 Completed
In an unbelievable turn of events, it was the man himself, the host of the entire Run It Up festival, Jason Somerville, who managed to win the $125 Six-Max Five-Card Pot-Limit Omaha event for $3,828 on the fourth day of the series. Somerville beat a field of 116 entries in the single-day turbo event in order to capture the first-place prize and the trophy.
The event started at 6 p.m. local time and the blinds went up every 15 minutes. The pace was fast and furious from the start, and Somerville displayed a "let's just win" attitude by getting to work early. He chipped up very quickly to become one of the leaders during the early part of the event and never seemed to look back from there.
Other players that tried their luck in the event included former Survivor champion Tyson Apostol, and he was joined by the likes of Deb Swift, Derek Gomez, and the winner of the third event this week, Oskar Sandberg. Sandberg was actually multi-tabling between this event and the $125 Thursday Thrilla No-Limit Hold'em. After the busted in the Omaha event, he bounced back over to the other side of the room to post a fifth-place finish in the Thursday Thrilla for $1,505.
Once the money was reached, players busted out at an even faster pace, but play slowed down considerably at the final table. Somerville maneuvered himself carefully and effectively towards the heads-up battle with Kyle Zech, busting only one player himself en route.
Zach was sporting Run it Up gear and collected the $565 Main Event seat as part of the last-longer competition that takes place in all gold trophy events.
A few hands into the heads-up battle, Somerville received a huge double when he flopped a straight against the aces of Zech. Zech mounted a comeback by doubling up three times, but the fourth time he was all in, the tournament ended.
On the last hand, Somerville flopped a set of deuces and held against the top pair of Zech.
Run It Up Reno will continue on Friday at 12 p.m. local time with the start of the $565 Main Event. PokerNews will be there from the start and we hope to have you following along. We'll see you then.
