Peng Breaks Record for Worlds Longest Hand, Liu Wins
Actually, that first part isn’t true, but it was a lengthy hand that took 15-minutes to play out from start to finish and there was so much tanking involved that the Chinese army had to send out a request for more armor.
It all started when Zhonglai Peng opened to 550 from the cutoff and Li Fu Liu re-raised to 1,300 from the button. Peng played with his chips a little and only took around a minute or so before deciding to three-bet to 3,700 and it was Liu’s turn to tank.
Liu thought for around 30-seconds before choosing to four-bet, making it 7,300 to go, leaving himself 11,500 behind. An indecisive Peng battened down the hatches and tanked for a further five minutes (we know because we were watching the tournament clock tick down) before grudgingly tossing in the call.
The extremely wet flop saw Peng tank some more, only for around minute or so this time, before checking the action over to Liu.
With less than a pot-sized bet left Liu had two moves available and picked the more aggressive of the two options, moving all-in for 11,500.
This is when the real tanking started and the tournament clock ticked down to 25 minutes as Peng tanked for what felt like an eternity, but was probably closer to nine minutes or so before anti-climatically folding, to a huge sigh from the rest of the table. Liu climbed to 27,000 after that lengthy hand while Peng still has plenty of chips and is sitting on 44,500.
