Smith Wins Straight Battle

Level 16 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Dan Smith raised to 24,000 on the button and was called by Christoph Vogelsang in the big blind.

Vogelsang checked the {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop and called when Smith continued for 20,000. The action repeated on the {6-Hearts} turn, with Smith betting 50,000 after using a time card and Vogelsang calling again.

The {5-Diamonds} produced another check from Vogelsang, while Smith left 1,000 of his remaining stack behind in a bet of 127,000. Vogelsang took some time before moving all-in and Smith instantly added his final chip.

Smith revealed {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for broadway, while Vogelsang sighed as he turned over {q-Spades}{9-Hearts} for the inferior straight.

Vogelsang Leans on Dvoress

Level 16 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Christoph Vogelsang was first to act and opened to 24,000 before clear short-stack Daniel Dvoress defended in the big blind.

Dvoress checked on the flop of {a-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{5-Hearts} and Vogelsang continued for 12,000. Dvoress called. Dvoress checked again on the {2-Diamonds} turn and Vogelsang checked back.

Dvoress checked a third time on the {q-Clubs} river and Vogelsang sat still before putting out a stack of black chips to put Dvoress all-in. Dvoress folded to hang on to his short stack.

Mateos Triples His Short Stack

Level 15 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Adrian Mateos moved all-in for his final 35,000 and was called by Timothy Adams to his left. Dan Smith then three-bet to 90,000 from the small blind, forcing a fold from Adams and leaving Mateos at risk heads up.

Adrian Mateos: {k-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Dan Smith {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

Smith's pocket queens were well in front, with the {8-Spades}{7-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop posing minimal danger. The {5-Hearts} turn brought Mateos an inside straight draw, which he hit on the {6-Diamonds} river to more than triple his stack.

Chidwick Falls to Heath

Level 15 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

In the final hand of the level, Ben Heath put heads-up opponent Stephen Chidwick to the test with the board reading {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{7-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{j-Spades}.

Heath bet 150,000 with just a little more than that in the pot and Chidwick contemplated calling off for less before doing so. Heath showed {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for a pair of queens, which was enough to beat the pair of jacks of the fellow Brit with {j-Clubs}{10-Hearts}.

Heath Takes Out Holz

Level 15 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Fedor Holz
Fedor Holz

Fedor Holz moved his short stack in against Ben Heath, with Holz in bad shape as the cards were turned up.

Fedor Holz: {3-Spades}{3-Hearts}
Ben Heath: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

Holz needed help but could not find any on the {6-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs} flop. The {8-Hearts} provided no additional outs, while the {10-Diamonds} river improved Heath's hand to secure the knockout.

Smith Spinning It Up

Level 15 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Christoph Vogelsang raised to 20,000 and was met by a call from Dan Smith in the big blind.

Smith checked the {5-Hearts}{2-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop and called once Vogelsang continued for 11,000. Smith checked quickly on the {a-Diamonds} turn, where Vogelsang fired again for 40,000. Smith used a time bank before making the call to the {7-Clubs} river.

Both players checked it through, with Smith showing {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs} to take down a notable pot.

In the latest PokerNews Podcast episode of 2023, Chad Holloway and Connor Richards handle things while Jesse Fullen is in Australia. They discuss Mike Postles sudden reappearance in the poker world after making a final table at the Million Dollar Heater at Beau Rivage in Mississippi, while also talking about the slowroll and needle that accompanied his bust out.

They try to balance that story with a heart-warming one where Johnnie Johnnie Vibes Moreno put a bartender into the MSPT Sycuan Main Event, with the recreational player going on to finish in fourth place for $40,000!

Other stories discussed include WSOP.com Player of the Years, Lon McEachern and Daniel Lowery winning WSOP Circuit gold rings, and early winners from the PokerGO Cup.

Speaking of which, PokerGOs Mori Eskandani joins the show as this weeks guest. The Poker Hall of Famer talks 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) preparations, who came close to challenging Jason Koon on High Stakes Duel III (HSD), plus when we can expect the next HSD match to take place.
