Hands #39-43: Colillas Gets Two Barrels from Rivera

Level 34 : 200,000/400,000, 400,000 ante

Hand #39: Marc Rivera completed the blind with {a-Spades}{k-Spades} and Julien Martini checked {5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}.

Both improved with the {k-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop but they checked to the {10-Clubs}. Rivera bet 400,000 and Martini called, bringing an {8-Clubs} river. Rivera checked and Martini 650,000. Rivera thought briefly and called to win the pot.

"I wasn't expecting this," Martini said with a smile.

"I should have bet the flop," Rivera said. "Maybe a big pot."

"Maybe."

Hand #40: Martini raised out of the small blind to 1.2 million with {j-Clubs}{3-Spades} and Ramon Colillas defended big blind with {k-Spades}{10-Spades}.

Martini continued for 900,000 on {8-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} and Colillas called. Martini slowed down with a check on the {7-Diamonds} turn and Colillas bet 1,450,000 and took it without a fight.

Hand #41: Colillas completed the blind with {q-Spades}{6-Clubs} and Rivera checked {10-Hearts}{3-Hearts}.

The {10-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop prompted a bet of 450,000 from Colillas and a call from Rivera. The {a-Hearts} turn led to a check from Colillas and a fold after a bet of 800,000.

Hand #42: Martini got a walk in the big blind, holding pocket sixes.

Hand #43: Rivera, with {j-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, raised to 800,000. Colillas defended big blind with {9-Hearts}{7-Spades}.

The {9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop paired both and Colillas check-called 600,000. Rivera kept betting on the {a-Clubs} turn with 1.2 million. Colillas stuck around for the {6-Diamonds} river. They both checked and Colillas took the showdown.

Scott Baumstein Eliminated in 4th Place ($1,657,000)

Level 34 : 200,000/400,000, 400,000 ante
Scott Baumstein
Scott Baumstein

Hand #38: Julien Martini opened to 800,000 from under the gun with {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} and Scott Baumstein pushed all in for 6,625,000 with {a-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} in the small blind. Baumstein was the short stack at the table and Martini asked for a count before making the call.

The flop came {k-Spades}{8-Hearts}{3-Hearts} to give Martini the lead with a pair of kings. The turn brought the {4-Spades} leaving Baumstein drawing to just an ace. The {10-Spades} on the river eliminated Baumstein in fourth place and Martini took a sizeable chip lead against his two Platinum Pass rivals.

Hands #34-37: Rivera Folds River With Second-Best Hand

Level 34 : 200,000/400,000, 400,000 ante

Hand #34: Scott Baumstein ripped all in with {k-Spades}{q-Hearts} in the small blind and Marc Rivera released his big.

Hand #35: Ramon Colillas opened with {a-Spades}{k-Spades} first to act and won the pot.

Hand #36: Baumstein jammed for 6,425,000 first to act with {a-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and took the blinds and antes.

Hand #37: Rivera opened for 1 million under the gun with {5-Spades}{5-Hearts} and Julien Martini flatted {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} on the button.

They went heads up to {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and Rivera checked. Martini bet 825,000 and Rivera peeled to the {j-Hearts} turn. Action checked through to the {8-Hearts} river. Rivera checked a final time and Martini fired 3.8 million. Rivera used a time extension but found a fold.

Hand #33: Rivera Doubles Through Colillas

Level 34 : 200,000/400,000, 400,000 ante

Hand #33: Marc Rivera shoved all in with {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} from under the gun and Ramon Colillas re-shoved with {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} in the small blind. Scott Baumstein quickly folded the big blind and Rivera was at risk and in need of some help.

The flop came {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} to give Rivera two pair and the lead. The {5-Diamonds} on the turn and the {9-Diamonds} on the river changed nothing as Rivera scored a double up.
