Hands #62-66: Kaverman Back on Top

Level 17 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Hand 62: Steve O'Dwyer shoved on Jean-Noel Thorel from the small blind and won the pot.

Hand 63: O'Dwyer shoved the button with {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and Thorel put himself at risk calling all-in for his last 445,000 tabling {q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}. Thorel flopped a straight on the {j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{k-Hearts} flop and the {4-Diamonds}{j-Spades} runout secured him the double up.

Hand 64: Thorel open-shoved on the button with {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and won the pot.

Hand 65: Thorel was given a walk.

Hand 66: O'Dwyer opened to 90,000 on the button with {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and Kaverman defended his big blind with {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. The flop fanned out {6-Clubs}{j-Spades}{2-Clubs} and Kaverman check-called a bet of 75,000.

The {a-Clubs} on the turn gave Kaverman a flush and he checked again. O'Dwyer bet 150,000 and after a few moments, Kaverman called.

The board completed with the {2-Spades} and Kaverman checked for the third time. O'Dwyer fired a third bullet worth 330,000 and Kaverman called, taking down a big pot to reclaim the chip lead.

Hands #57-61: O'Dwyer Makes a Flush

Level 17 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Hand 57: Byron Kaverman received a walk in the big blind with {A-Hearts}{9-Clubs}.

Hand 58: Jean-Noel Thorel opened for 100,000 with {3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} on the button. Kaverman woke up with {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts} in the small blind and moved in for 1,345,000. O'Dwyer folded right away and Thorel decided to do the same after thinking about it for a bit.

"I fold a pair," Thorel said.

"A good pair?" Kaverman asked.

"Not so good, or I would put it in. But a pair..." Thorel replied with a smile.

Hand 59: O'Dwyer opened the small blind with {K-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for 120,000. Thorel called with {10-Clubs}{7-Hearts} in the big blind. O'Dwyer flopped great on {2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} and he called Thorel's bet. The {Q-Hearts} hit the turn and O'Dwyer checked again. This time, Thorel checked behind.

The {7-Spades} completed the board and O'Dwyer bet 200,000 into 455,000. Thorel called instantly with his rivered pair but he had to muck as O'Dwyer showed the flush.

Hand 60: Steve O'Dwyer found a big hand with {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades} on the button and he moved all in. The blinds both folded right away.

Hand 61: Steve O'Dwyer received a walk in the big blind with {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}.

Hand #53: Byron Kaverman opened with {q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} to 75,000 on the button, Steve O'Dwyer called holding {q-Hearts}{8-Hearts} in the small blind, and Jean-Noel Thorel defended his big blind with {2-Spades}{2-Hearts}. Hand #55: Kaverman limped the small blind holding {a-Spades}{4-Spades} and O'Dwyer raised to 105,000 with {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. A {9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{q-Spades} flop gave both players something and Kaverman check-called a bet of 120,000.

Kaverman checked again when the {5-Clubs} came on the turn and O'Dwyer bet 300,000. Kaverman flatted bringing the {4-Hearts} on the river.

Kaverman checked for the third time and folded when O'Dwyer shoved.

Erik Seidel Eliminated in 4th Place ($260,260)

Level 16 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel

Hand 52: Action folded to Erik Seidel in the small blind and he moved in for just under 400,000 with {K-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. Big blind Steve O'Dwyer didn't need too much time calling with {K-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}.

The flop came {5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} which left Seidel drawing very thin.

Commentator Lex Veldhuis mentioned a jack would be the best card Seidel could hope for to appear on the turn and he got just that with the {J-Spades}.

O'Dwyer still had an 82 percent chance of winning but a chop was now a possibility.

Unfortunately for Seidel, however, the {Q-Diamonds} on the river wasn't one of the cards he was looking for.

After bubbling the $100,000 event earlier this week, Seidel now out in 4th place for $260,260. The remaining 3 players are guaranteed $339,480 from here on out.

Hands #49-51: "Everyone Loves a Chopped Pot!"

Level 16 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

Hand 49: Erik Seidel moved in from the button with the {A-Diamonds}{9-Spades} for 450,000. Steve O'Dwyer in the small blind asked for a count with {A-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and reshoved. Thorel folded.

The flop came {Q-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{3-Hearts} which left little room for chopped pots. But the {2-Diamonds} on the turn improved those odds drastically, and the {K-Hearts} on the river made for a split.

"Everyone loves a chopped pot!" James Hartigan sang alone as co-commentator Lex Veldhuis failed to join in.

Hand 50: Steve O'Dwyer on the button with {Q-Spades}{9-Clubs} raised to 75,000. Byron Kaverman in the big blind called with {K-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and checked on {9-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{K-Spades}. O'Dwyer bet 105,000 into 185,000 and Kaverman called.

The {7-Spades} on the turn did nothing and Kaverman checked again. O'Dwyer waited till he had just 3 seconds left and then moved in for 553,000 into the 395,000 pot. Kaverman folded.

Hand 51: Steve O'Dwyer opened {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} under the gun and he took down the blinds and antes.

Level 16 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

Hand 44: Jean-Noel Thorel opened to 75,000 from the cutoff with {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and won the pot.

Hand 45: Byron Kaverman slid out a big stack of 25,000 chips and both players in the blinds folded.

Hand 46: Kaverman opened to 75,000 under-the-gun and Steve O'Dwyer shoved from the small blind with {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}, taking down the pot.

Hand 47: Erik Seidel was given a walk.

Hand 48: Thorel opened to 75,000 under-the-gun with {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and Kaverman flatted on the button with {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}. The flop fanned out {a-Clubs}{9-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and both players checked to see the {10-Diamonds} on the turn.

Thorel bet 100,000 and Kaverman called. The {5-Hearts} completed the board and Thorel checked. Kaverman checked as well and mucked when Thorel tabled his ace.

Benjamin Pollak
Benjamin Pollak

Hand 43: The action folded to Byron Kaverman in the small blind and he moved all in with {A-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}. The pressure was on Benjamin Pollak in the big blind and he didn't have much of a decision, he called quickly with the {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}.

The flop came {J-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Spades}, which did nothing. The {K-Spades} on the turn didn't either but the {6-Spades} on the river, however, meant it was all over for Pollak.

The Frenchman, who had an amazing 2017 where he earned $4,979,065 to get to $7,879,762 in tournament earnings lifetime, finished in 5th place for $203,680. The remaining 4 players are guaranteed $260,260 from here on out.

The {k-Diamonds} fell on the turn and Kaverman checked once more. O'Dwyer checked as well bringing the {2-Spades} on the river.

Kaverman fired a bet of 135,000 and O'Dwyer made the call. Kaverman showed him the bad news and raked in a sizeable pot.
