Calvin Snead Bags Gargantuan Chip Lead After Day 1b
Day 1b of the $1,100 HPT Meadows Main Event is in the books after 10 hours of play. Despite having significantly more entries with 150 versus the 116 on Day 1a, the day would finish with fewer players as only 22 survived.
Out of the 22 that remained, the leader who emerged was Pittsburgh local Calvin Snead who bagged an impressive 652,000 which is more than double the largest stack of Day 1a and more than 200,000 clear of any other stack. He was a large stack for most of the day and just continued to rise steadily all the way until the conclusion of play when his steady rise was enough to take the chip lead into Day 2 with his gargantuan stack.
Second in chips to end the day was Jason Mangold who ended the night with 442,000. He had a wild end of the day as he amassed a stack of close to 650,000 with only a couple of levels to go after becoming the terminator with multiple eliminations in a row. But not long after, he lost nearly half of his stack in a series of unfortunate events when he lost all-ins to some decent sized stacks. But he was able to recover nicely before play ended to set himself up securely in 2nd place.
Two other players bagged stacks that were larger than the Day 1a leader as Bobby Noel finished with 391,000 and none other than Greg Raymer bagged a massive stack of 336,000, which is good enough for 4th in chips. Frank Bonacci also joined the 300k plus club with 313,000
Another prominent player to make it to Day 2 was well known HPT grinder Craig Casino, who finished the night with 213,000.
The 22 players who survived the day will join the 25 survivors from Day 1a on Sunday October 6 at 11 a.m. local time to create a total of 47 players who will contest in a bombastic Day 2 of action. Play will begin at level 16 with blinds at 2,000/5,000 and a 5,000 big blind ante.
