Action of the Day
The Main Event began with 345 players ready for battle, and quickly climbed to more than 1,000 by the time late registration closed after 12 levels of play. That number fell fast as the blinds increased, with only the top 171 players earning at least 76.37 Sweeps Coins.
The bubble burst when "Evanb004" hit the rail in 172nd place, leaving everyone remaining to battle for the top prize.
"ROLGUY" Rungood
"ROLGUY" began to pick up steam on the final two tables, where action was fast until play stalled with ten remaining. That was sorted on one significant hand, where "ROLGUY" caught a set of nines to crack kings and tens for the double knockout.
Of the remaining eight players at the final table, "ROLGUY" took out four more on the way to victory including the last three eliminations. The final one came at the expense of "Rosey62", who could not defeat ace-jack to fall in second spot. "ROLGUY" collected the last of the chips in play, along with the largest share of the Sweeps Coins prize pool.
Action continues in the Global Poker x PokerNews Cup, where qualifiers will be running all week long into the Freeroll Finale on July 7.
Our coverage of the Main Event ends here, but PokerNews will have full updates throughout the rest of the series along with live reporting of the Freeroll Finale next weeekend. Be sure to keep an eye on the remainder of the PokerNews Cup.
