Day 2 Completed

Guo Dong wins GPL Match 118

Hong Kong Stars' Guo Dong has won match 118 in the Global Poker League. He won the second 6-max heat of the day of the Eurasia Conference by beating Igor Yaroshevsky heads up.

Dong recovered very well from an early exit in the first match of the day. He came back and took revanche by raking in the seven points for first place.

The second heat looked nothing like the first encounter. Dario Sammartino, second in heat one, was the first one to leave, followed quickly by the winner of the first heat, Dominik Nitsche.

Liv Boeree scored her second fourth place of the day before Alexandre Luneau was eliminated in third. Yaroshevsky started the one on one battle with 100,000 chips, against Guo Dong's 50,000 points.

Dong quickly turned the tables and never looked back. The first all-in of the heads up match was the deciding one and Dong got the maximum score. Helping his team to a tied second place in the league table.

Yaroshevsky Busts in Second

Igor Yaroshevskyy
Igor Yaroshevskyy

Igor Yaroshevsky was blinded down to 42,000 chips in the 1,500/3,000-level. Guo Dong limped in from the button with {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades} and Yaroshevsky decided to go for it with his {K-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}. Dong called immediately and was in good shape to win this heat.

The board ran out an uneventful {8-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{5-Spades} and Yaroshevsky had to settle for second place.

Yaroshevsky is probably not very disappointed about his second place. His five points increase the Moscow Wolverines lead in the Eurasia Conference standings.

Luneau Eliminated in Third Place

Alex Luneau
Alex Luneau

Alexandre Luneau had 27,000 points left, which he put on the line with {K-Spades}{3-Spades}. Igor Yaroshevsky, who looked to have some connectivity problems, directly made the call with {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}.

The board gave Luneau a pair, but the {2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{9-Hearts} wasn't much of a help. The Frenchman was sent to the rail and raked up 3 points for his third place.

Yaroshevsky didn't only get the chips of Luneau but also half of his 14-minute game clock. As well as the chips, he could use the time very well. After his time out he was left with only eight seconds on his own clock.

Boeree Eliminated in Fourth Place, Again

Just like the last heat, Liv Boeree has ended this tournament in fourth place. In the 800/1,600-level she was down to only 8,600 points.

Guo Dong raised from under the gun to 3,558 and Boeree went all-in. Dong quickly called.

Liv Boeree: {K-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Guo Dong: {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}

The {J-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop gave Boeree a straight draw, but Dong had the clubs. The {8-Hearts} turn and the {J-Hearts} river were no help to Boeree and she was eliminated in fourth. She scores another two points for the London Royals.

No Second Win For Nitsche, Eliminated in Fifth

Dominik Nitsche couldn't pull off a double win today. He just busted in fifth in the second 6-max heat of the Eurasian Conference.

While holding {J-Spades}{A-Hearts} he saw a flop with Igor Yaroshevsky. The Moscow Wolverines player flopped big with his {2-Clubs}{9-Clubs} when the {2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} appeared. Nitsche called a bet with his overcards.

The {J-Diamonds} turn got him in trouble and he couldn't get rid of his hand anymore. On the {7-Diamonds} river he called a shove and was eliminated in fifth place.

The single point Nitsche scores in this heat, brings the Berlin Bears' score up to 100 points, but they are still in sixth and last place.

Sammartino Finishes Sixth, No Points

Dario Sammartino ended up second in the first heat of this day, but he wasn't that lucky in the second 6-max tournament as he just busted in sixth.

Alexandre Luneau raised it up, before Sammartino decided to go all in for 15,000 points with {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}. Igor Yaroshevsky had an easy call with {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}.

Sammartino was in big trouble and the {8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} didn't help him.

Second Heat Started

The second 6-max heat of the day is underway. The same competitors as in match 117 are playing this heat.

Dominik Nitsche, the winner of the last heat, has drawn first blood by winning a big pot from Liv Boeree. Nitsche had {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts} on a {3-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{Q-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} board, which won against Boeree's {a-Spades}{3-Spades}.

Guo Dong started off better than last heat, in which he was the first to go. The Hong Kong Stars player won a nice pot against Dario Sammartino and is the chip leader at the moment.
