Olivier Busquet Becomes the Alpha, Winning the EPT Barcelona 50,000 Super High Roller!

Level 23 : 100,000/200,000, 30,000 ante

The 100th stop of the European Poker Tour has kicked off with a bang, as Olivier Busquet topped an elite, record-breaking field of competitors in the EPT Barcelona 50,000 Super High Roller.

Busquet fired one bullet in the unlimited reentry event and finished in first place from a field of 77. For the feat, Busquet earned the second live tournament victory of his career and scored himself a whopping 896,434.

To claim victory, Busquet had to defeat his good friend and winner of the 2014 World Series of Poker Big One for One Drop, Daniel Colman. Colman has had an amazing year on the live felt, and finished with another super impressive result by earning 843,066 the two made a heads-up deal to alter the payouts.

To say that today's was all Busquet's would be an understatement. He came from behind with the {A-Spades}{2-Spades} against Sven Reichardt's {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds} in a miraculous runner-runner double up that vaulted him into second place. And then from there, he was basically an unstoppable force.

Busquet had two aces when Dan Shak decided to jam the {A-Spades}{8-Spades}, and then he again had pocket rockets when Morten Klein shoved the {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}. After getting down to heads-up play with Colman, Busquet pulled off a timely bluff-shove on the river with five high, and then he made a full house versus Colman's trips to scoop another big one.

It was definitely Busquet's tournament to win.

On the final hand, Colman limp-shoved his short stack preflop with big slick, but couldn't hold up against Busquet's {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} after a queen hit the turn. Despite the "loss" for Colman, he earned another big score to add to his 2014 yearly earnings of $18,492,964.

For the victory, the heads-up-sit-n-go-playing, televised-poker-commentating Busquet scored the largest payday of his career and moved to nearly $5.9 million in live tournament earnings. Congratulations to him and all the winners, but things aren't over from Barcelona.

The action starts right back up tomorrow with the EPT Barcelona Main Event. Some have hinted that this will be the largest EPT event outside of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in history, so it's one you surely won't want to miss. Things kick off at 12 p.m. local time.
