Beresford Bags Big in Day 1b 2,200 Eureka High Roller

Level 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Conor Beresford
Conor Beresford

British poker professional Conor Beresford bagged big as he ended Day 1b of the 2,200 Eureka High Roller at the top of the chip listings here at the beautiful Hilton Prague at PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague.

It has been a record-breaking field again for this event as the 2,200 Eureka High Roller followed the example of the 1,100 Eureka Main Event in attracting more entrants than ever. The previous record was only set in March of this year but the 1,534 entries crushed that 1,149 total. This event, as a result, has managed to generate a prize pool of 2,945,280.

Beresford is seen thriving in the big fields yet again. Beresford managed four cashes at the EPT's last stop in London which included coming in second place to Sweden's Martin Jacobson in the 1,100 UKIPT Main Event for 145,120. Beresford will be hoping to go all the way this time.

Other notable players who secured a bag included Julien Martini (317,000), Mehdi Chaoui (77,000) and Jon Kyte (38,000).

Action from the day started furiously as Patrick Kallas rivered quads against Oleksandra Shenderei's flopped straight flush to be eliminated early. The big hands didn't stop there as during the middle of the day as Tibor Nagygyorgy eliminated three in one hand as his pocket aces held. This hand contributed to the Hungarian ending the day with a top three chip stack.

PokerStars Team Pro Ambassador Alejandro Lococo jumped straight into the tournament after his deep run in the Eureka Main Event and built a stack before getting his chips in with queen nine suited against [Removed:428]'s pocket nines to no avail. The bubble burst when Majid Nadeem's pocket jacks ran into Bleron Maliqi's pocket kings to end the day.

Play will resume from 1:00 p.m. local time where the 71 survivors from 1b will join the 159 players from 1a to battle for the huge prize money and the coveted EPT trophy. Blinds will resume at 4,000/8,000/8,000 with 17:36 left in Level 18.
