Sternheimer Loses Some to Kulev Before Taking from Mateos

Level 8 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

Philip Sternheimer completed in the small blind and Alex Kulev raised to 9,500 from the big blind. Sternheimer called.

Sternheimer checked on the flop of {10-Clubs}{2-Spades}{10-Hearts} and Kulev continued for 4,500. Sternheimer called. Sternheimer checked again on the {4-Clubs} turn and Kulev sized up to 18,000. Sternheimer laid it down.

The next hand, Sternheimer raised to 5,500 on the button and Adrian Mateos defended his big blind. Mateos checked on the flop of {a-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and Sternheimer bet 4,000. Mateos called. Mateo's checked on the {9-} turn and Sternheimer checked back.

Mateos checked again on the {6-Hearts} river and Sternheimer bet 20,000. Mateos shuffled a handful of chips and then called. Sternheimer tabled {k-Hearts}{9-Spades} for a pair of nines and Mateos mucked.

During the hands, the players discussed among themselves the number of spade trophies won between the three of them. Mateos is in the lead with five or six, while Sternheimer said he believes he has just one.

"Do you know how many I have?" Kulev asked.

"Zero?" replied Sternheimer.

"Yep!" said Kulev.
