Astedt Drowned on the River

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Niklas Astedt, the man entered here on Day 2 and was responsible for the elimination of Stephen Chidwick, just met his demise.

It happened when reigning European Media Person of the Year Marc Convey opened for 2,000 from early position and the player in the hijack called. Sebastian Pauli then three-bet to 6,500 from the cutoff, and Astedt four-bet it to 15,300 from the small blind. Convey and the limper got out of the way, and Pauli opted to five-bet all in, which prompted Astedt to call off for what looked to be over 50,000.

Pauli: {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Astedt: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

It was a flip, but not after the flop came down {k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{6-Clubs} to give Astedt the lead with kings. The {3-Clubs} turn meant Pauli needed one of the two remaining queens on the river to score the knockout, which is just what he did when the {Q-Diamonds} spiked!
