Three-Bet, Then Cold Four-Bet Turns Into a Chop

Michel Abecassis opened with a raise to 700 from middle position, and Lorenzo Sabato called from the next seat before action folded to Dan Smith in the small blind. Smith put in a reraise to 2,700, then action fell on Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier in the big blind. He four-bet to 4,700.

After Abecassis and Sabato folded their hands, Smith opted to call and take a flop, which came down {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts}. From there, Smith checked, Mercier fired 2,300, and Smith called.

The turn was the {K-Spades}, and another check came from Smith. Mercier decided to check behind this time, and the {8-Hearts} completed the board on the river. It was here that Smith fired 7,500, and Mercier raised all in for about 12,500. Smith quickly called.

Mercier showed the {10-Hearts}{8-Spades} and Smith the {J-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}. Both players had a Broadway straight and chopped up the pot.
