Samuel Rodriguez Eliminated in 5th Place (230,900)

Samuel Rodriguez - 5th
Samuel Rodriguez - 5th

In the very next hand after Sinel Anton's elimination, Joni Jouhkimainen and Samuel Rodriguez created a 1.1 million pot preflop and saw a flop of {8-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}. It was an action flop as Rodriguez flopped two pair holding {8-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and Jouhkimainen had an up-and-down straight draw with {9-Spades}{6-Spades}.

Rodriguez's last 2.32 million ended up in the pot and the players were on their feet, especially when the {Q-Spades} turn gave Jouhkimainen an added flush draw. Much to the dismay of Rodriguez and those hoping to see a Spaniard take down an EPT for the first time, the {3-Spades} spiked on the river to complete Jouhkimainen's flush. The local player exited the stage in fifth place to a nice round of applause.

Sinel Anton Eliminated in 6th Place (178,400)

Sinel Anton - 6th
Sinel Anton - 6th

In the first hand back from the break, Sinel Anton raised to 205,000 from early position with {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} and was met with a three-bet to 375,000 from Anaras Alekberovas, who held {10-}{10-} in the cutoff. After the button and blinds folded, the short-stacked Anton just called. Not only that, he check-called bets of 100,000 and 205,000 on the {2-Spades}{4-Clubs}{10-Hearts} flop and {J-Spades} turn respectively.

Anton checked for a third time when he paired his queen on the {Q-Spades} river, and then called off his last million when Alekberovas moved all in. Anton seemed to think he won the hand as he lingered at the table until someone told him, "You lost." Anton realized the situation, got up, and took his leave in sixth place.

From Short Stack to the Second Biggest Stack

Samuel Rodriguez raised to 225,000 under the gun with {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and Joni Jouhkimainen three-bet to 405,000 immediately after with {J-Spades}{7-Spades}. The rest of the field got out of the way, Rodriguez called, and the flop fell {K-Hearts}{6-Spades}{8-Spades}.

Rodriguez checked his flop set, and the check-raised to 800,000 when Jouhkimainen bet 335,000. The latter responded by moving all in for 3.31 million and Rodriguez snap-called. Jouhkimainen needed a spade to stay alive, and while he would find it on the {7-Clubs} turn, he did on the {2-Spades} river.

Rodriguez was clearly disappointed as his hope of becoming the first-ever Spaniard to win an EPT decreased significantly; meanwhile, Jouhkimainen is now up +6.1 million since the start of the day.

Antonin Duda Eliminated in 7th Place (125,950)

Antonin Duda - 7th
Antonin Duda - 7th

Anaras Alekberovas opened for 190,000 under the gun and was met with a three-bet to 450,000 by Antonin Duda, the economics student from Jablonec, Czech Republic who qaulified for the tournament via a 22 re-buy event on PokerStars. Alekberovas pushed back with a four-bet to 800,000, Duda moved all in for 2.56, and Alekberovas snap-called.

Showdown
Alekberovas: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Duda: {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}

It was the second time Alekberovas had picked up kings, and while the {Q-Spades}{K-Clubs}{A-Hearts} flop paired Duda's ace, it also delivered the Lithuanian a set. Neither the {7-Hearts} turn nor {3-Hearts} river would help Duda, and the Day 3 chip leader was eliminated in seventh place.

Jouhkimainen Doubles Through Sahamies

Joni Jouhkimainen was all in preflop for 1.66 million folding {A-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and in bad shape against the {J-Spades}{J-Clubs} of Ilari Sahamies. The {5-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{K-Clubs} flop wasn't anything special for Jouhkimainen, but the {A-Hearts} turn was as it gave him the lead with a pair of aces and left Sahamies drawing to two outs headed to the river.

The dealer burned one last time and put out the {9-Spades}, giving Jouhkimainen a much-needed double.
