Another Double for Watson; Seidel Short

After JC Alvarado got involved under the gun, Erik Seidel raised it up from the button. Mike Watson then moved all in from the small blind, Alvarado folded, and Seidel made the call.

Showdown

Seidel{A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}
Watson{8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

It was off to the races, and Watson needed his eights to hold to stay alive. That's exactly what happened as the board ran out {5-Clubs}{10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}.

Watson Finds the Time

A short-stacked Mike Watson moved all in for 465,000 and cleared the field all the way to Mike "Timex" McDonald, who made the call from the big blind.

Showdown

Watson{K-Spades}{Q-Spades}
McDonald{A-Hearts}{J-Spades}

Watson was behind and in need of either a king or queen. He wouldn't find it on the {9-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop, but he would on the {Q-Clubs} turn. The {4-Clubs} river gave Watson the double, but yet again he was still relatively short.

Talal Shakerchi Eliminated in 7th Place (138,300)

Talal Shakerchi
Talal Shakerchi

On a flop of {J-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}, Ilari Sahamies checked from the big blind and opened the door for Talal Shakerchi to bet 155,000 from the under-the-gun position. Sahamies responded with a check-raise to 425,000, and Shakerchi wasted little time in moving all in for 1.13 million.

Sahamies, who began the hand with just a bit more than his opponent, asked for a count and thought for a solid minute before making the call.

Showdown
Shakerchi: {9-Spades}{10-Spades}
Sahamies: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}

Shakerchi was a 2-1 dog with his open-ended straight draw, which wouldn't come in as both the {7-Spades} turn and {10-Hearts} river blanked. With that, Shakerchi exited in seventh place for 138,300, while Sahamies received a virtual double.

Alvarado Overcomes Smith's Kings

JC Alvarado limped from early position and inspired Erik Seidel and Mike Watson to do the same from the button and small blind respectively. Chip leader Dan Smith then exercised his option in the big blind with a raise to 200,000, which only Alvarado called.

Smith fired a continuation-bet of 175,000 on the {5-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{4-Spades}, Alvarado called, and the {7-Spades} appeared on the turn. This time Smith checked, and Alvarado took the opportunity to bet 260,000. Smith made the call and then both players checked the {4-Clubs} river. Alvarado tabled {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for a pair of aces, which bested the {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} of Smith.

Watson Doubles; Still Short

A short-stacked Mike Watson moved all in for 245,000 from early position and was called by Dan Smith in the cutoff. The button and blinds both got out of the way, and the cards were turned on their backs:

Showdown

Watson{K-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Smith{K-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}

Watson was dominating Smith, who happened to be his roommate here in Barcelona. The board ran an uneventful {J-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{J-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}, and Watson doubled, though he is still the short stack at the table.
