Checking Back the Nuts?

Pierre Neuville had a flummoxed look upon his face after Adrian Schaap checked back the nuts to him on the river.
They were heads up to a 
flop and Neuville led for 8,000. Call. The turn was 
and Schaap bet 11,000 when the Team PokerStars Pro checked to him, and he called when check-raised to 30,000. The river was
