Things Not Starting Well for Makhija

Amit Makhija had already lost full house over full house after flopping fives full on a {6-}{6-}{5-} flop. He lost to an opponent's {6-}{5-}, but somehow saved chips. Then he lost this next hand.

Oleksii Kovalchuk raised to 500 and Daniel Cates made the call before action folded to Max Lykov on the button. He three-bet to 2,300 and then Makhija flatted out of the small blind after thinking for a minute. Action folded back over to Cates and he called. Lykov also called.

The flop came down {8-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and everyone checked to see the {9-Clubs} land on the turn. Makhija bet 4,000 and Cates made the call. Lykov folded.

The river was the {Q-Clubs} and Makhija check-called a bet of 5,000 from Cates. Cates turned over the {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} for a turned set of nines and won the pot.
