EPT Copenhagen Day 2: Weisner Grabs The Lead at the Death
When we started Day 2 of the European Poker Tour Copenhagen there were 179 players, from differing nationalities, and one American leading the lot. Steve O'Dwyer was our Day 1a leader with 190,975 chips and he was the man everyone was chasing throughout the five levels of play. When that day ended there were 72 players left and an American was still leading the charge, only it wasn't O'Dwyer but Melanie Weisner with 368,200 chips.
Weisner started the day with 78,900 chips and slowly grinded her way into contention, always remaining just behind the front runners until deep into the last level. Then Weisner found herself on the right side of a 100,000 pot against Lars Damgaard Hansen that catapulted her into the lead. Not a bad few days for the woman who spent last night dining in the world's top rated restaurant Noma.
Weisner opened the action with a 3,500 bet and there were two callers in the shape of Johan Roosen and Lars Damgaard Hansen. The flop was and Hansen checked to Weisner who bet 6,400 and only Hansen made the call. On the turn the pair shared the and Hansen check-called a 12,500 Weisner bet. Then on the river we saw the and Hansen took the betting lead for 18,900. Weisner looked down to check she still had the nuts before raising it up to 58,700 and Hansen called (he later told Weisner he flopped two pair).
Despite securing the chip lead it certainly wasn't the Melanie Weisner Show, with the chip lead changing hands more times than a baton in a 100m sprint relay. Simon Ravnsbaek, Lauri Varonen, Aage Ravn, Keld Volqyardsen and Michael Tureniec all taking turns to lead the days festivities.
Other notables who had chips to place into a plastic bag at the end of the day included Team PokerStars Pros Pierre Neuville (221,300), Luca Pagano (59,000), Johnny Lodden (41,100), Martin Staszko (27,900) and Team PokerStars Pro Online Mickey Petersen (82,200). Day 1a chip leader Steve O'Dwyer ended the day with 122,000, day 1b chip leader Mads Wissing ending with 119,300 and reigning EPT Copenhagen champion Michael Tureniec ending with 214,500 chips.
Day 3 starts on Thursday at 12.00 (CET) where we will breach our money bubble with the top 48 players receiving a pay cheque. Make sure you join us at Pokernews for all of the very best action.
