The Luck of the Irish

Team PokerStars Pro Jude Ainsworth may not have an EPT Main Event title yet, but he did just set himself up a bit better to make a real run at it with the following hand.

Action folded to Ainsworth in the small blind and he min-raised to 32,000. Pontus Khosravi was in the big blind and took his time before three-bet to 74,000. After a minute, Ainsworth reraised all in for 475,000. Khosravi snapped so fast it could only mean one thing.

Khosravi: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}
Ainsworth: {Q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

Things looked very bad for Ainsworth, but he got a little bit of help on the {8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop when he picked up a gutshot straight draw.

The turn {5-Hearts} did nothing, but the {6-Diamonds} on the river was exactly what Ainsworth needed. He had made his straight, albeit by nothing short of a miracle, and was able to double through.

Ainsworth has five EPT Main Event cashes on his record. The deepest of those runs came from a 13th-place finish in the 2009 EPT Vilamoura Main Event for €13,274. His best finish money-wise came in 2010 at EPT Berlin where Ainsworth finished in 19th for €23,500. Earlier this year, Ainsworth won a side event at the EPT San Remo.
