Paredes Cuts Himself on Diamonds

Paredes is not happy.
Paredes is not happy.
Warning: big, painful, stomach-churning pot ahead, i.e. completely standard tournament poker.

Marc Inizan raised to 5,700 from early position, and David Paredes called from the cutoff. The small blind also called.

Flop: {6-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} - The small blind and Inizan both checked, and Paredes bet 11,000. The small blind was content to call, but Inizan upped the bet to 31,800. Paredes asked how much Inizan had behind, and seeing it was just under 100,000, decided to call. The small blind folded.

Turn: {A-Diamonds} - Inizan checked, and Paredes bet 35,000. Inizan moved all in for a total of 97,700, and Paredes called instantly.

Showdown
Paredes: {J-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} for a flush
Inizan: {7-Spades} {6-Spades} for trip sixes

River: {2-Spades}

It took a minute for Paredes to absorb the fact that board paired on the river, filling Inizan's boat. But everyone knew the moment he saw it, since he jolted back in his chair and let out a stream of expletives. Paredes said he should have bet Inizan all in on the turn, and Inizan admitted that he might have folded, but said "You played it good, you played it good. You got the money in with the best hand." Not much consolation for Paredes, who is down to 65,000. Inizan is now sitting behind 300,000.
