Phillips' 3-Bet Pays More Dividends...

Goodwin raises to 250,000 and Phillips makes it 700,000 and Goodwin calls.

The flop is {K-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} and Phillips bet 800,000 and Goodwin calls. The {9-Clubs} comes on the turn and Phillips checks. The river is the {6-Clubs} and now Phillips bets 1,400,000 and Goodwin quickly folds.

Goodwin Fistpumps...

"EN-GL-AND!"
"EN-GL-AND!"
No, nothing to do with poker, he was just asking the camera how the England football team were doing against Croatia tonight.

England are 2-0 up at the moment...

Goodwin Doubles Up

Phillips makes his usual raise and Goodwin calls. The flop is {10-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {4-Diamonds}, Goodwin then check-raises a 275,000 bet to 975,000 and Phillips makes the call.

The {A-Spades} comes on the turn and Goodwin moves all-in and Phillips calls!

Goodwin: {10-Hearts} {4-Hearts}
Phillips: {6-Hearts} {2-Hearts}

The {8-Clubs} on the river helps no-one and we're back to even.

The stacks are almost even now.

Goodwin Getting Short

Goodwin raised to 250,000 and then flat-called the raise to 700,000 from Phillips. Interesting.

They found themselves looking down at a {K-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {J-Spades} flop and Phillips bet out 875,000. Call. Wow.

The turn was the {3-Clubs} and they checked it; the river was the {K-Diamonds} and they checked that too.

Showdown...

...And Carter Phillips' pocket eights were good, Goodwin just mucking.

Phillips: movin' on up to 10.795 million
Goodwin: sinking down to 3.58 million

Goodwin's Check-Call Strategy Backfires

Phillips raised from the button and Goodwin flat-called.

Goodwin check-called 275,000 on the {Q-Spades} {4-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} flop before they both checked the {7-Spades} turn. The turn came down the {7-Diamonds} and this time Goodwin check-called 500,000 -- only to muck when Phillips turned over {J-?} {7-?} for rivered trips.

"Nice," said Goodwin. He didn't mean it though.

Phillips: 9,745,000
Goodwin: 4,630,000

Shhhh...

As predicted, the tournament area has gone eerily quiet since last Spaniard standing Santiago Terrazas busted out. Marc Goodwin initially made some efforts to make conversation, but Carter Phillips was not really going for it. There's more of an air of gravitas now, but it's not nearly as much fun.
