Sims Doubles Kemper First Hand

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

In his first hand of play, Charles Sims opened to 600 and was three-bet to 2,700 by Drake Yearout, but then Sims four-bet to 8,100, and Yearout called.

On the flop 6?2?Q?, Kemper moved all in for his remaining stack of around 18,000 and Sims quickly called to put him at risk.

Kemper then confidently tabled 2?2? for a set of deuces while Sims flipped over A?K?. Only a runner-runner straight could win him the pot but the turn 8? left him drawing dead. The board completed with the 5? and Kemper was awarded the pot for an early double while Sims was left short.

The 2024 Winter Poker Open at Champions Club Texas in Houston continues today with Day 1f (sixth of eleven starting flights) of Event #4: $400- $300,000 guaranteed Mystery Bounty!

The $400 buy-in event starts at high noon local time with unlimited re-entry and registration open until the start of Level 9 (approximately 4:30 p.m. CT). Out of the four completed starting flights, tournament regular and Louisiana native Derek Normand is the stack to beat as he bagged the chip lead in yesterday’s Day 1e with 691,000.

Levels are 30-minutes in length and players will start their quest for Winter Poker Open glory with 30,000 chips. Play continues in each opening flight until just 12% of the field remains, with those players in the money and advancing to Day 2, at which point the bounties will come into play.

The two-day event culminates with a live-streamed final table on Monday, February 12th once all survivors from the eleven opening flights have been thinned to nine remaining contenders. Those opening flight returnees will come back to the Champions Club poker room at noon on Monday to continue their chase for a big payday and to pull some big bounties!

Make sure to stay tuned for the next few days as PokerNews will have you covered for this event until a champion is crowned on Monday, so stay with us for all the action!
