In the vast majority of Ladies events played these days, there is likely to be one or two men who exercise their rights by crashing the party. And while their decision to enter an event ostensibly reserved for women is theirs and theirs alone, the sight of a bearded man duking it out against a table ringed with women always causes a bit of a stir in the room.

Today, that man is Alex Goldberg, and while he readily admitted "I'm the jerk today, not ashamed of it," he appears to be enjoying himself thus far here today. Goldberg is the lone non-lady to enter the tournament at this early juncture, but we will be sure to let you know if any further incursions into the land of ladies is made as the day rolls on.

From Russia With Love

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

The same table which saw a 45,000-chip pot develop on the second deal of the day just had another major collision take place.

The action began when four players limped into the pot, only to see Olga Petrovskaya raise to 350 from the button. All four limpers (a group which included the small blind, a middle position player, the cutoff and the hijack) all came along for the ride.

When the dealer fanned a flop of {4-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{6-Clubs} across the felt the action was checked three times until cutoff fired out a bet of 350. Unimpressed, Petrovskaya opted to raise the action to 1,500, and the cutoff flatted to see the {k-Clubs} fall on fourth street.

The cutoff led out once again, this time for 600, and Petrovskaya reapplied the pressure with a raise to 2,500. After another smooth call from the cutoff, the river brought the {q-Spades} to the table to pair the board.

Firing a third barrel, the cutoff flicked a bet of 1,200 into the middle, only to see the relentless Russian native to her left raise again, making it 5,000 to go. That bet was essentially snap-called and the cutoff rolled over her {4-Spades}{4-Clubs} with the confidence, believing her full house to have bested a likely club flush.

Instead, Petrovskaya coolly revealed her {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}, tabling the best boat on board to claim ownership of the huge pot. Petrovskaya, an adept student of the game who recently placed 4th in another Atlantic City tournament, will now be a force to contend with as she now holds a big stack with which to bully her opponents.

Fireworks on Second Deal of the Day

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

With the Ladies event just now kicking off, we were stunned to see a huge pot brewing in which more than 45,000 chips were eventually claimed. Here's what went down:

After a few limps into the pot before her, the player on the button raised to 250.

When both blinds came along, Jeanette Sims flatted from early position, as did Olga Petrovskaya in middle position. The five-way flop came down {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} and that's when the action ramped up considerably.

The blinds tapped the table and Sims led out for a overbet of 2,000 into the small pot. This aggressive play folded Petrovskaya and the blinds, but the button player decided to see the turn, which came {10-Diamonds}.

Another big bet and call occurred on fourth street, with Sims wagering 4,000 and the button flatting once more. The river card came down {j-Clubs} and Sims continued her hyper-aggression by firing out a bet of 11,000, forcing a minute or two of tanking from the button. Eventually though, she opted to look Sims up, which was a bad idea because her series of overbets had disguised a flopped full house with {A-Hearts}{7-Spades}. Sims dragged the massive pot to nearly double her starting stack on just the second hand she saw.

In just over a half an hour Ladies Night will begin early at the Borgata, with Event 6 ($300 Ladies Deep Stack NLHE Reentry) set to kick off at 11 a.m. local time.

Patricia Knoll will most likely be here today, after taking down the Ladies event at the Borgata Winter Poker Open in January. A regular on the local poker scene, Knoll had a strong group of supporters cheering here on then, including Alyson Parker and Nancy Martin, both of whom are also expected to fill out the field.

Young grinder Megan Milburn has played nearly a full slate so far at the Borgata Spring Poker Open, and as the runner-up in the Winter edition of this event, she will be one of the more skilled players in the field.

Teresa Sexton is also in attendance, and after her 3rd place finish in this event back in January, she is looking to reach back-to-back final tables while playing against many of her best friends.

Keep it here throughout the day to follow all the action, as PokerNews proudly provides live continuous coverage of the Ladies event here at the Borgata Spring Poker Open.
