Defending Champ Off to a Good Start

Level 2 : 100/200, 25 ante

Last year, Alex Trevallion topped a field of 104 entrants to win this very event for AU$645,150. Trevallion is in action today looking to defend his title, and so far so good.

In a recent hand, action folded to Trevallion in the small blind and he just limped while he chowed down on a salad. Daniel Neilson, who is sporting quite the beard, then exercised his option to raise in the big by making it 400. Trevallion made the call and then check-called a bet of 450 on the {5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} flop.

Both players then checked the {9-Clubs} turn as well as the {2-Diamonds} river. Neilson tabled the {6-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} for a pair of sixes, but it was no good as Trevallion had rivered a straight with the {a-Diamonds}{4-Spades}.

That may have been a small win, but as you can see by his chip count, it's been a good start for the defending champ.
