Mercier Doubles Pustoslemsek Then Busts Next Hand

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

Dejan Pustoslemsek has been playing a patient game here on Day 2 even as his stack dwindled to just 9,500. Just before the break, he committed all his chips preflop holding the {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and was primed to double against Jason Mercier, who held the inferior {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. The board ran out a clean {9-Clubs}{A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{A-Clubs} and Pustoslemsek doubled through Mercier, who was left with just 3,100.

In the very next hand, Mercier had to commit 1,000 from the big blind and watched a player in middle position raise to 4,700. Action folded around to the player in the small blind and he seemed interested. "There's no bounty," Mercier reminded him. The small blind, and entire table for that matter, got a good laugh from it.

Eventually the small blind folded and Mercier committed his stack with {9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}. The middle-position player then tabled {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}. "I want to take it back," Mercier deadpanned. Unfortunately for him it was too late and his tournament came to an end after the board ran out {10-Spades}{Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{A-Hearts}.
