Mizzi Busts

After Dennis Huntly raised preflop, Sorel Mizzi was all in for his last 550 chips along with two other callers.

The flop was {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and Huntly's bet on the flop was enough to drive the two live players out of the way as the players tabled their cards.

Mizzi had hit top pair with his {A-Spades}{6-Clubs}, however Huntly showed {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} for a set. The turn brought a sweat when the {A-Hearts} peeled off but the {J-Spades} on the river ended the day for Mizzi as Huntly now sits with 9,500.

Sclavos Forces Pickering's Hand

Jamie Pickering has been mixing it up early, accumulating a good size stack early in today's tournament.

However his aggression was his undoing as he went head-to-head with Eric Sclavos. Pickering opened the pot from under the gun and found callers in Maya Gellar-Antonius and Sclavos.

On the flop of {4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{8-Spades} Pickering fired once again and both players flat-called. Pickering once again bet the {a-Spades} turn and Sclavos immediately raised. Gellar-Antonius got out of the way and Pickering showed his first sign of weakness by calling.

The river {6-Clubs} saw Pickering check and then fold to a bet from Sclavos who took the hand down without showing.

Pickering is still strong at 6,500, Sclavos has now chipped up to around 7,000.

Andrew Mercaldi Adds Value to the Field

Mercaldi in action during Event #1
Mercaldi in action during Event #1
Andrew Mercaldi let us know he sees himself as value in today's field.

"If they want chips, tell them where to find to them," said Mercaldi, who finished 15th in the opening event for a $6,579 payday. "I'm a donut in this field," he concluded.

Will Mercaldi be a donut? Or will he cash for another nice little sum with three donuts attached?

Sometimes It's Just Not Your Day

Martin Comer, during Event #2
Martin Comer, during Event #2
Martin Comer's day just went from bad to worse as he was eliminated from the tournament after his opponent Mario Milan spiked a two-outer on the river.

Comer found his last chips in the middle on a board of {6-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} and called by Milan. Comer tabled {6-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for trips as Milan held {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}.

The river was a cruel {8-Clubs} to the disgust of Comer as he is eliminated from the tournament.

Limit Puts Putty to Sleep

With the action on Graeme Putt preflop he appeared to fall asleep! From across the table, Bruno Portaro yelled out to him and Putt woke from his slumber and announced a raise as the rest of the table erupted into laughter.

Putt then tried to claim that he was merely meditating, but Portaro was sympathetic saying that it's going to be a long day so it's probably a good idea to get some rest!

Saab and Griffiths Tangle: 1-0 Griffiths

It has been a big couple of days for David Griffiths. He started his 2009 Aussie Millions campaign very well by going deep in the opening $1,100 No-Limit Hold'em. Today he is seated at the same table as the seldom quiet David Saab.

Not long ago they were involved in a hand together. Preflop, Saab raised from early position, only for Griffiths to reraise from the big blind. Saab made the call.

On a {7-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{k-Hearts} flop both checked and saw a {q-Spades} turn. Griffiths immediately fired out a 200 bet, only for Saab to pop it up to 400. Griffiths deliberated for a moment before making the call.

The {7-Diamonds} hit the river and Griffiths checked, setting the trap for Saab who bet out, only to be check-raised.

"Why would you do that?" asked Saab before folding his cards with a wry smile.

Saab is sitting at 4,800 and Griffiths is slightly less then that at 3,800.

Comer Steaming

Martin Comer is getting frustrated by young Neofito Yianni on his table, who is raising every hand.

"You've had too much Red Bull!" barked Comer.

A few hands later with a four-card flush on board, Comer's bluff attempt was picked off by Yianni with merely a pair of tens to infuriate Comer even further as he exclaimed, "Give him some more Red Bull!"

Then a few moments later the two players tangled again. With three limpers in the pot the action was with Comer who quipped "Is he in?" referring to Yianni, and when the answer was the affirmative, Comer called along.

The flop was {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades} and the action checked to Comer who fired out a bet. Three players, including Yianni, made the call.

The turn brought the {J-Hearts} and the action checked through. The river was the {5-Spades} and again it was checked to Comer who fired out a bet. "Don't do it" he shouted at his opponent but Yianni made the call as the others stepped aside.

Comer tabled {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts} for air as Yianni's {K-Clubs}{5-Hearts} for just a pair of fives was good! Comer stood from his chair and shouted "Are you serious?"

Yianni replied "If you didn't talk so much I would've folded!"

Comer is back to 3,300 with Yianni at 5,100 chips.
