Christopher Park Leads Day 1a as the APPT Welcomes Back Seoul

After a two season hiatus, the first day of play at the 2012 PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour Seoul Main Event has come to a conclusion.
There were a total of 129 players who took part in the eight, 60-minute levels on Day 1a and of those it was Christopher Park who finished with the most chips. It never seemed like Park was playing a massive hand, instead he slowly built his stack with well-timed aggression and plenty of expert play.
There will be approximately 60 players who join Park on Day 2 this weekend, with Fakher Alizai (97,200), Barry O’Callaghan (94,200) and Michael Guzzardi (68,500) also in good shape.
One of the early stories to emerge out of Day 1a was the domination of 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event champion, Oliver Speidel. A quieter second half of the night will see Speidel return on Day 2 with a solid 74,400 in chips.
Some of the notable players who couldn’t quite manage the momentum they needed to survive the night included Terrence Chan, Jesse McKenzie, Grant Levy and Darren Judges.
One of the interesting aspects of the day was the food situation. It’s not often that the food at a poker tournament is talked about as much as the game itself, but APPT Seoul was an exception. Early on in the day the players realised there was no food available to purchase anywhere close enough to the tournament area. PokerStars and the tournament staff came to the rescue though as a host of complimentary sandwiches, burgers and pizza was provided. It was an absurd thing to witness, but at one time there were several pizza boxes being passed around the tables.
Aside from the food, the 129 players who have entered so far is proof that this side of the world deserves a championship poker tournament, with the record number of players for an APPT Seoul event set to be broken come tomorrow's Day 1b action.
