Mertzanis On a Wild Ride

Greek PokerStars online qualifier Dimitrios Mertzanis has been a wild ride today. He's been down, he's been up, he's bluffed and he's sucked out. He's done it all.

Just recently, Mertzanis opened to 2,500 preflop (yes, 2,500) and was called in one spot. After a flop of {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, Mertzanis fired 3,000. His opponent moved all in for 16,000 and Mertzanis made the call, tabling the {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}. His opponent held the {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. The turn brought the {4-Clubs} and then the river completed the board with the {Q-Clubs}, also completing the high club flush for Mertzanis. With that pot and elimination of his opponent, Mertzanis moved up to 97,000 chips.

On the next hand, Mertzanis raised before an opponent went all in. Mertzanis called with the {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, but was dominated by the {A-Clubs}{K-Spades} of his opponent. This time, there was no suckout glory for Mertzanis after a board of {9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and he dropped back to 85,000 chips.

On the very next hand, a pot developed between Eric Assadourian, Mertzanis and one other player. The flop was {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and the unknown player checked. Assadourian fired 2,000 and then Mertzanis raised to 12,000. The unknown player called all in for 10,200 and then Assadourian ducked out of the way. Mertzanis revealed pocket fives against his opponent's {Q-Clubs}{10-Hearts}.

The turn was the {9-Diamonds} and the river the {4-Spades}. Mertzanis couldn't find luck this time either and lost the pot to drop back to 72,000.
