The Day's Action
Action got underway at 1p.m. Eastern time, and after three and a half hours of late registration, 311 players sat down at the virtual felt, with 91 of them rebuying. Once the gates came down on registration, it didn't take long at all to get down to business.
Less than 90 minutes after the close of entries, players were on the bubble to the 45 paid spots. The bubble only lasted one hand, and Canadian "DosPoochies" and "BriIliant" both busted on the same hand to get them to 45 left.
They were down to 2 tables less than an hour after the bubble burst, and it was ten-handed just 20 minutes later. Play stalled a bit ten-handed though, as they battled for final table spots for almost an hour before Finland's "vladimir8551" busted in 10th place to set up the final table.
Once they got to the final table, it picked up again, with two quick eliminations. "nezar4ouph" from Canada fell in ninth, followed by Brazil's "guizones27". It was seven-handed for almost 30 minutes before "SouTheMan" from Malta took seventh place.
It was more than half an hour before the next elimination, but that opened the flood gates, with "hmmcannucks", "THEPWNER", and "Pigh6785" going out in short order. About 10 minutes later, Canadian "algsxr" ended their run in third.
That set up the heads up battle between the last of five Canadians to make the final table, "alexkoab05" and Gonzalez. Gonzalez came into heads up with a big chip lead, and the Canadian was never able to catch up. About 15 minutes after the final two got under way, "alexkoab05" woke up with an ace, but ran into the jacks of Gonzalez and ended their day in 2nd place for a score of $14,500.
