Flopping a Small Set Out of Position in a Multi-Way Pot

The PokerStars Championship Macau Main Event is in full swing with Day 3 currently nearing its end.

Among the many players comprising the 536-entry field in the HK$42,400 buy-in event (nearly $5,500 USD) was Team PokerStars Pro Aditya Agarwal.

Agarwal took the time after his Day 1 flight to discuss a hand with us in which he played a small pocket pair and flopped a set, then had to decide how to get value in a multi-way situation.

It was Level 6 (blinds 250/500, ante 50), and Agarwal found himself starting the hand in the big blind with a below average stack. An early-position raise attracted multiple callers, including the small blind, and after looking down at 4x4x Agarwal called as well.

The flop came 2?3?4? to give Agarwal a set, and after the SB checked he faced a decision. The board was unlikely to have hit others, although with a couple of hearts and three to a straight there were several turn cards Agarwal didn't want to see fall. For those reasons he chose to bet, and two of his opponents stuck around with calls.

The turn was a blank, Agarwal reports, and with just about a pot-sized bet left behind Agarwal chose to shove all in. Hear what happened next as well as some further analysis from Agarwal about the hand and situation:
