Keen Athlete Slobodianik Runs Good in CPP Satellite

Ukraine's Aleksandr Slobodianik was the first player to satellite into the Caribbean Poker Party Online Main Event for $0.01.

He says he plays all the small buy-in satellites on partypoker, aiming to satellite into not just the Caribbean Poker Party Online, but the Irish Poker Masters and the Big Game as well.

"My bankroll is small, only $100," Slobodianik said. "I've tried a number of times in the $0.01 because I knew I could win a ticket."

In the final phase, Slobodianik was short-stack with 22 players left, and only 16 tickets guaranteed. Then came the key hand.

"The button opened for 2.5 big blinds and I had just 4 big blinds left. I shoved with pocket nines. He was thinking for 40 seconds and eventually folded. In 10 minutes we were in the money!. I'm glad I did it with a very short stack."

"I would say my level is below average, but I am getting better."

Slobodianik says that between now and the Main Event, he will work on his game "more than ever."

"The best thing would be to hire a coach, but I cant afford it. I would say my level is below average, but I am getting better. Also, some of my problems are definitely psychological. It is a very expensive tournament, so it will be hard not to feel huge pressure, but I will try my best"

Currently in his sixth year of university, Slobodianik is studying to become a doctor and has played poker for fun over the last 2-3 years. And his latest run-good should come as no surprise for the keen athlete.

"I am a big fan of running. One of my dreams is to run a 100 km in one week, but it will take some preparation to achieve it"

As he prepares for a slightly different challenge later this month, he says that it was "a dream" to qualify for a tournament like this.

"I want to thank partypoker for an opportunity like this. Even a min-cash could bring me life-changing money. Good luck to everyone and remember that everything is possible"

Bad Beat Spurs Dushko On

Another player who qualified for the Caribbean Poker Party Online Main Event for just $0.01 is Yevhenii Dushko.

He found out about the festival through Andrei Kozlenko, who is a popular Ukrainian poker streamer. In only his second or third centroll ever, he managed to make his way to winning a massive $5,300 ticket to the Main Event.

"It's a great opportunity!"

However, the path wasn't always easy. He told us that at one point he lost 15 of his 25 big blinds with ace-king suited against nine-five off!

"That hurt," he said. "But somehow I managed to qualify!"

Dushko says that he usually plays small stakes tournaments online, but occasionally dabbles in satellites.

Unsurprisingly, this will by Dushko's most expensive tournament ever - both online and offline. His previous largest was a $109 buy-in tournament.

"It's a great opportunity," said Dushko. "It's great to try and qualify for some large events. Thanks a lot and good luck at the tables!"
