BIG 50 is the Biggest WSOP Ever
Over the weekend, Event #71: BIG 50, $1M GTD proved to be the biggest World Series of Poker (WSOP) field ever with a massive 44,576 entries!
Attendance for the two-day event was expected to be big given the low $50 buy-in and massive $1,000,000 guarantee, which was more than doubled as a $2,050,496 was ultimately up for grabs. After the Day 1 flights concluded, 4,140 players began Day 2 with 2,300 of them slated to get paid.
Some big names competing on Day 2 were GGPoker Ambassadors Daniel Negreanu, Pete Chen, and Michael Soyza, as well as players like Chris Moorman and Jack Salter. However, after a long day of play it was a relative unknown coming out on top as Chinas Huahuan "F7588" Feng claimed the bracelet, a package to WSOP Europe, and the $211,282 top prize.
The win marked the seventh cash for Feng during the 2020 WSOP Online at GGPoker. Prior to the online series, Feng had no WSOP cashes on his resume, but he managed to rack up more than $300,000 in wins in various Asian events since 2017.
The $211,282 score proved to be his his biggest cash ever, eclipsing his previous best of $176,985 (KRW 198,060,000) he won in the KRW 11,300,000 + 700,000 No Limit Hold'em - High Roller (Event #8) at the 2018 Jeju Red Dragon.
Solid Final Table Performance
Large MTTs are often referred to minefields, and in that analogy, no battlefield had more mines planted than the BIG 50. Navigating the minefield was no easy task and deserving of Performance of the Week in itself, but the cherry on top for Feng was a solid final table performance.
He began the final table as chip leader and notched five eliminations on his way to the title. First, he got lucky with ace-three to overcome the pocket sevens of Dean "JoogieJJ" Lipscombe, who exited in eighth place.
With five players remaining, Mac TheChosen1 Veyga shoved the button with ace-queen and Feng called out of the big blind with king-jack. A king on the flop and another on the river sent Veyga packing in fifth place and added to Fengs lead.
The short-stacked Daniel Vanessa23 Montagnolli bowed out in fourth place, and Ronald CorVanHout Haverkamp followed him out the door in fourth after running pocket fours into Fengs jacks.
Feng took a more than 2:1 chip lead into heads-up play against his fellow countryman Xue qiao whattfboys Zhao, and it didnt take him long to finish the job. In what would be the final hand of the tournament, Zhao four-bet jammed with king-six only to see Feng call with the far superior ace-six. The board ran out clean and Zhao had to settle for second place and a $159,705 consolation prize.
