Kahle Burns

Australian pro Kahle Burns continued his hot streak by taking down the 2019 Poker Masters Event #9: $25,000 No-Limit Holdem event for $416,500. The victory propelled Burns to second-place in the race for the Poker Masters purple jacket, although he needs plenty of luck to topple Sam Soverel from the summit.

A whole host of stars were among the 49 entries who bought into this $25,000 high roller event. Matthias Eibinger was the 10th place finisher, his elimination setting the final table. Only seven spots were paid, meaning two of the finalists would ultimately go home empty-handed for their efforts.

The first of this duo was Ben Yu with PokerGO founder Cary Katz crashing out in eighth-place, on the bubble, when his ace-jack proved no match for Burns dominating ace-queen.

Alex Foxen added the $61,250 seventh-place prize to his bankroll when he three-bet shoved a short stack with ace-three and lost to the queen-nine of Burns, courtesy of a nine on the turn. Foxens exit concluded play for the day, and the final six players returned under the cameras on November 13th.

David Peters took command of the six-handed final table from the start but still finished in sixth place for $73,500. Peters made a play that put both blinds at risk of elimination if they called. Peters made his move with queen-diamonds. Ali Imsirovic called with ace-jack, which held to leave Peters dangerously short. He busted a few hands later.

Fifth place and the last five-figure score went to Elio Fox. Fox called a Burns shove with pocket queens but lost to the ace-seven of the unstoppable Australian who paired his ace on the turn.

Man of the moment Sam Soverel lost a huge coinflip, again against Burns, to fall in fourth place. Soverels king-queen fell victim to the pocket nines of Burns to bust. Soverel has now all but won the 2019 Poker Masters Championship with two events remaining.

Burns then busted Sean Winter one hand later to send the tournament into the heads-up stage. Heads-up saw Burns and Ali Imsirovic, the reigning Poker Masters champion, lock horns in a fantastic battle. Imsirovic staged a comeback, but that rise from the ashes was cut short when he got his chips in with queen-jack, and Burns called with ace-jack. Burns hand held, and Imsirovic crashed out in second place.

Sam Soverel almost has the Poker Masters Championship sewn up as he has reached the final table of Event #10: $50,000 No-Limit Holdem. Only Kahle Burns and Chance Kornuth have a hope of catching him, and they both busted before the money places. Soverel returns to action second in chips in an event where $680,000 awaits the winner.

The 2019 Poker Masters concludes with a $100,000 Main Event. Soverel could secure the title by the time that tournament crowns its champion.
