Global Poker Index: Alex Foxen Still Tops Player of the Year, Overall
Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a player's results over six half-year periods. A month ago we were reporting how Alex Foxen had moved up into the lead in the 2018 Global Poker Index Player of the Year race, and with just December left to go he continues to hold onto the No. 1 spot where he has now been for the last eight weeks.
Foxen grabbed the lead from Stephen Chidwick who has led the POY race on three different occasions this year for a total of 22 weeks. Chidwick has slipped to No. 4 now, as both David Peters (No. 2) and Justin Bonomo (No. 3) edged ahead of him over the last month.
Peters had seven cashes and a couple of wins in November �� a $100,000 Super High Roller at the ARIA and a $5K event at the Seminole Hard Rock 'N' Roll Poker Open. Meanwhile Bonomo enjoyed a couple of final-table finishes, adding still more earnings to his whopping $25 million-plus year.
Looking at the rest of the current POY Top 10, Steve O'Dwyer joined the list in November and now sits at No. 6 after taking down the winner-take-all �25,500 Super High Roller at the Master Classics of Poker last week.
Ryan Riess has entered the list as well, having reached No. 8 a couple of weeks back after finishing fourth in the 2018 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event won by Jack Sinclair before slipping to No. 10 at present.

Foxen also still reigns atop the overall rankings, having now completed eight straight weeks at No. 1.
There was some minor shuffling up and down the overall Top 10, with both O'Dwyer and Riess being the only newcomers to the list when compared to a month ago. Along with Foxen, O'Dwyer belongs to the select group of 19 players who have been ranked No. 1 since the GPI began in 2011. O'Dwyer was last at No. 1 in June 2016.
Riess is currently at No. 8 in the overall rankings, having reached his career-high of No. 7 at the start of November. These last five weeks mark the first time inside the Top 10 for the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event champion
Looking outside the GPI Top 10, Pavel Plesuv has made a big move up to his career-high ranking of No. 14 after winning the WPT Seminole Hard Rock 'N Roll Poker Open Main Event to end November. Plesuv topped an 898-entry field to win a $504,820 first prize in the $3,500 buy-in event, the score pushing his total career tournament earnings over $4 million.
