World Cup of Cards in Full Swing: The First Champions Crowned
The World Cup of Cards (WCOC) is only just getting started at Playground Poker Club in Kahnawake, Quebec, but already two champions have been crowned. PokerNews is on site for live coverage and there's been plenty of action already. A quick round-up of what's happened so far.
Event #1: Quantum No Limit Hold'em
The first tournament of a scheduled 28 events started Thursday evening with Day 1a of the Quantum No Limit Hold'em tournament. The Quantum actually runs throughout the entire series, with Day 2 starting September 13th. There's a total of ten starting flights and players are able to enter each flight once.
The early flights of the Quantum are CAD $170 buy ins, but there are some flights with a bigger buy in. The higher the buy in, the higher the cash, and the more players going through to Day 2. Players can also buy directly into Day 2 for CAD $2,200.
So far [Removed:105] has the largest stack heading into Day 2 with 399,100. He collected that stack in the kickoff flight and leads 24 players who are already guaranteed a seat on Day 2.
Event #2: Bounty Builder
The second event was the CAD $170 Bounty Builder No Limit Hold'em Tournament. Kenneth Wigfield took home CAD $3,776 and earned 14 CAD $100 bounties. He bested a field of 316 entries to win the first Playground Poker Club Tournament he played.
Wigfield outlasted Sebastien Poirier, who finished in second place, when the two got all in preflop. Wigfield held Kx5x against the 7?6? of Poirier. The board didn't bring a pair for either player and Wigfield won the pot and tournament with king high.
"This is the first time I've been here," Wigfield said, "It's like poker paradise!"
Event #3: Pot-Limit Omaha
Event #3 was the CAD $220 Pot-Limit Omaha Tournament, which drew 78 players. Dave S. won the event and took home a prize of CAD $4,532 after he and Steve Daraiche made a deal to chop CAD $4,000 and play for the extra $532. Event #3 was the first of no less then seven non-Hold'em events at the WCOC.
World Poker Tour National Montreal
The CAD $600 World Poker Tour National Montreal runs alongside the rest of the WCOC schedule. Day 1c finished yesterday and 15 players made it into Day 2 so far. Four more turbo starting flights remain, running today and tomorrow. An overlay on the CAD $400,000 guarantee is likely, so if you're in the neighborhood be sure to drop by! Benoit Beaulac leads all players so far and will start Day 2 on Wednesday with a monster stack of 648,000.
The home of the WCOC is Playground Poker Club. It was established in 2010 and is recognized by poker players all over North America as Canada's Premier Poker Destination. The Club is located less than twenty minutes south of downtown Montreal within the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake and is duly licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission.
