Less Than 24 Hours Removed from 4th Bracelet, Jason Mercier Knocking on the Door Again
Jason Mercier is on the cusp of something very special at the 2016 World Series of Poker.
Riding a hot streak he started with a win in the 2016 WSOP $10,000 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship on Monday night, Mercier is leading the final 8 in the $10,000 Razz Championship on Tuesday, and threatening to go back-to-back in bracelet events.
On Monday, Mercier told PokerNews he won much more than the $273,335 first-place prize in bracelet-bet side action when he took down the $10,000 2-7 Draw Lowball title. Plus, he confirmed he has even more action on winning two bracelets at 18- or 19-1.
However, Mercier's most highly publicized bracelet bet remains the one he made with Vanessa Selbst coming into the World Series, putting $10,000 down at 180-1 to win three bracelets. Should he manage to accomplish what once seemed like and impossible feat, but now suddenly seems within reach, it would be worth a whopping $1.8 million.
Selbst could be found on Twitter Monday night, looking to hedge, offering to take Mercier's side on winning two more bracelets. On Tuesday, she took a bit of a different tack, crying foul, claiming she was intoxicated when she made the bet, and was disappointed Mercier wasn't giving her the chance to buy out.
The ramifications of this hot streak could have a major impact on anyone betting against Mercier, who now has four WSOP bracelets and stands at the top of the State of Florida's all-time money list with $16.7 million in career live tournament earnings, not to mention untold hundreds of thousands in bracelet-bet wins.
Of course, PokerNews is on the scene, and is planning to interview Mercier for a segment on the PokerNews Podcast at the dinner break in the Razz on Tuesday evening.
Look for that, and more on this story, in the coming days right here on PokerNews as the 2016 WSOP rolls on.
