UK & Ireland PokerNews Round-Up

It is that time of week again where we take a look at the most popular poker and gambling stories published on our UK & Ireland facing site so make a drink, get yourself comfortable, and keep reading the UK & Ireland PokerNews Round-Up.

One of most read stories of the past week was Sam Trickett signing as a brand ambassador with India-facing Starpoker.IN. Having represented Matchbook, Titan Poker, and Everest Poker previously, this move comes as a surprise to poker community, many feeling Trickett could have found a more established and mainstream brand to support.

One player who is currently without a sponsor or ambassador role is the legendary Chris Moorman. The winningest online poker tournament player of all time continues to impress at the virtual felt and is now on course to top the UK online poker rankings once again. Moorman climbed to second place in the UK, one rung lower than Bristol-based Spaniard Oscar "MendaLerenda" Serradell.

Last weekend, Manchester United fan Daniel McNairney was at the home of his favorite football team where the latest leg of the Grand Prix Poker Tour played out. Old Trafford, known as the Theatre of Dreams, hosted the $109 buy-in event, which had a 250,000 guaranteed prize pool. McNairney walked away with the lion's share of that princely sum, or 35,000 to be exact, after finishing as the last man standing.

McNairney won 35,000 and this is the guarantee placed on the opening leg of the 2016 Genting Poker Series (GPS), which takes place in Luton. The 200+20 buy-in event is sure to smash through its guarantee, and UK & Ireland PokerNews will have a full recap of the event once a champion is crowned.

It seems standard practice for a player from the UK or Ireland to win a massive score in the Sunday majors each week, yet this week there were no six-figure scores. Several players did help themselves to big score though, one of them being Carl "swansfc_CJ" Johns who came third in the PokerStars Bigger $109 for a cool $20,816.50. Check out the UK and Ireland focussed Sunday Briefing for a rundown of the best results enjoyed on Sunday.

Completing the Round-Up for another week is a trio of industry stories all in one handy article. This article talks about Dusk Till Dawn signing a deal with BRAVO Poker System, GVC Holdings preparing to sell bwin.party's payments operation Kalixa, and the Irish competition authorities giving the green light to the Betfair and Paddy Power multi-billion pounds merger deal.
