UK & Ireland PokerNews Round-Up

After a quiet period around the holiday season, the poker scene in the United Kingdom and Ireland has picked up and is back to its brilliant, busy best. Here are the most popular stories from the UK & Ireland PokerNews site from the past seven days.

The most-read article of the week was the exclusive interview with poker player Carl Pilgrim who refuses to let his disability come between his love for his family and poker. Pilgrim was born with the muscle-wasting disease muscular dystrophy, yet he has managed to become a legend on the Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) where he tops the all-time money listings.

Keeping with the live poker scene and the news that David Lloyd won the opening leg of the 2016 Genting Poker Series. Lloyd is a regular in British poker tournaments and has a superb record in them, including a victory in a Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Main Event. This latest victory netted Lloyd 12,075 after a three-way deal, read about how the final table went down here.

Another major poker tour heads to the UK in March when the Unibet Open kicks off its ninth season in the capital city of London. It marks the fifth time London has hosted a Unibet Open stop, but will be the first time since 2010 that the famous Grosvenor Casino Victoria has been the venue of choice. Over to the online poker world now where sites on the iPoker Network are running their annual January Sales promotion until the end of, well, January. Several tournaments have had their buy-ins slashed, giving recreational players the chance to play in a bigger event than they normally would, and helping the professional increase their ROI.

A brace of fantastic offers are to be had at partypoker this weekend where it is running Fight Night and the $100,000 Cobra. Fight Night takes place on January 30 and sees the Jab, Contender, and Uppercut tournaments have their guarantees doubled, but their buy-ins remain the same.

The Cobra is a special bounty event that sees four-time world champion boxer and four guest players sit down with $2,000 bounties on their heads. All this for $100+$9.

A couple of players who may play some of those events are Ben Farrell and Stephen Woodhead who both enjoyed success in the PokerStars Turbo Championship Of Online Poker (TCOOP) last Sunday. Farrell won the TCOOP edition of the Sunday Supersonic for $84,490.25 while Woodhead took down Event #17 for a bankroll-boosting $118,818.68.

Thanks in part to that huge win, Woodhead soared to the top of the United Kingdoms online poker rankings, with Irelands Kevin Killeen claiming top spot in the Emerald Isle. Check out where both of these players rank in the world and who is keeping them company in their respective countrys top 20 in this UK & Ireland Online Poker Rankings article.

Lastly, great news for anyone who holds shares in Paddy Power because they are set for a windfall. Paddy Power and Betfairs multi-billion pound merger is set to complete on February 1 and when it does, Paddy Power is paying three dividends to its investors. Find out how much, here.
