888poker Increases Tournament Guarantees with Special Edition Tournaments
September is usually the month when online poker players return from the outdoors, and once again resume playing poker in large numbers. This is once again true this month and is in no small part due to the excitement in the online poker world created with the return of the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) to PokerStars.
While it is true that the biggest poker festival of the year is taking place right now, other sites are also benefiting from more players returning to their computers. This includes the world's second largest real-money online poker site, 888poker, who last week increased its guaranteed prize pools on many of its tournaments and plans to do the same this week as well.
In total, 13 of the flagship tournaments on 888poker rewarded their players with higher guarantees via Special Edition tournaments, and players responded by playing in huge numbers. The turnout was so huge, that 888poker mentioned to PokerNews in an email that "the combination of our Special Edition tournaments with [the] WCOOP campaign created prizepools that we have not seen since the last XL (Series)."
With this in mind, not only will 888poker continue this week to offer Special Edition tournaments, but also further increase the guarantee on some of them. Additionally, The Whale, which is a tournament held once per month, will witness its guaranteed prize pool on Sunday increased from the usual $150,000 to a bigger $200,000.
As you might imagine, the two weekly Sunday majors are part of the guarantee boost. The Mega Deep, which normally boasts a $100,000 prize pool guarantee, was boosted to a $120,000 guarantee last week, and was boosted again this week to a $150,000 guarantee. Likewise, The Sunday Challenge, which had a $75,000 prize pool guarantee during August, was increased to a $100,000 guarantee which it will keep this week.
