UK & Ireland PokerNews Round-Up

The 2015 World Series of Poker was a roaring success for the United Kingdom and Ireland, with four bracelets won and millions of dollars scored in cash, too. Many of those who spent the summer grinding in Las Vegas have returned home and taken a well-earned break, but some British and Irish players have jumped right back into the deep end and have put in some exceptional results.

One such player is Daniel Carter. While Carter did not head to Las Vegas this summer, preferring to stay at home and play online instead, he will be there in 2016 if his current form continues to astonish those around him. You see, this week, Carter won not one, not two, not three online poker tournaments... but five! Some players go their entire careers without an outright victory and there's Carter taking down five in seven days. That's amazing stuff.

Another player winning more than his fair share of online events is the Ireland-based Lithuanian, Tomas "luckymo32" Geleziunas. The man formerly ranked first in Ireland has 78 cashes last week, with 19 of those cashes being final table appearances and six of those being wins. Gelziunas is now ranked third in Ireland, which you can see in our round-up of the PocketFives.com rankings.

Continuing with the online world and the Sunday Majors in particular. Niall "Firaldo87" Farrell won the Full Tilt Sunday Brawl while a whole host of other top talent helped themselves to four and five-figure scores on Sunday night and in the early hours of Monday morning.

Lastly, for the online poker related news, is that of Marc "PlayinWitDreams" Kennedy becoming a Player Ambassador for Full Tilt. Kennedy is a high-volume Rush Poker player who has logged thousands of hours at the fast-fold tables, won more than a million of dollars profit and claimed the Rush Poker high leader board in the Black Card races five times in a row.

Into the live poker arena now and the news of two well-known winners. Yucel Eminoglu, the man known affectionately as "Mad Turk," won the Genting Poker Series (GPS) Mini Luton Main Event on Sunday and walked away with 13,200 after two final table deals.

Some players go their entire careers without an outright victory and there's Carter taking down five in seven days. That's amazing stuff.

At the other end of the UK, Gordon Huntly emerged victorious in the Grosvenor 25/25 Glasgow Main Event and returned home with 10,120 after a heads-up chop with UKIPT circuit regular, Thomas Ward.

By the times next week's Round-Up is published, we'll have the results of a number of other live events. The Hippodrome Casino is running its 35,000 Guaranteed Summer Classic, while the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour heads to Leeds, Yorkshire for the sixth leg of this year's tour.

To the business side of things now and the news that Ladbrokes and Gala Coral have agreed to merge, creating the UK's largest bookmaker, one valued at 2.3 billion. Signs early in the week suggest an agreement would be made before the close of play Friday and those signs were true because the deal was confirmed on Friday morning.

Liverpool continued the recent trend of English Premier League teams partnering a gambling site when they became partners with Marathonbet for the next three years, while Betfair's chief executive, Breon Corcoran, was rewarded for increasing the company's value from 750 million to 2.4 billion in the shape of a 10 million bonus. 10 million, just think about that for a while.
