Global Poker Index: Schemion, Seiver Still Lead; Taylor Paur Primed to Pounce

Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top 300 tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a player��s results over six half-year periods. The GPI also ranks the top performers of the year over two six-month periods as calculated by the USA Today Global Poker Index point system.

2015 GPI Player of the Year

Scott Seiver holds onto first position in the 2015 Global Poker Index Player of the Year race for a second straight week as the top six players all remained the same. However while Anthony Zinno was the one catapulting into the top 10 last week after winning the World Poker Tour L.A. Poker Classic, it was Taylor Paur using his WPT success this week to jump all of the way from No. 82 to No. 7 in the rankings.

A week-and-a-half ago Paur won the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars event, earning $1,214,200 for besting a field of 708. Paur will no doubt move up again next week as he followed up that performance with another WPT final table, finishing third of 465 last night at the WPT Rolling Thunder in an event won by Ravee Mathi Sundar. Like Paur, Sundar was also at that final table at WPT Bay 101 (where he finished sixth), so he, too, will likely be barreling up the 2015 POY rankings in short order.

Also worth noting are the appearances of Atanas Kavrakov and Barry Hutter inside this week��s POY top 10, with Kavrakov having recently won a side event at WPT Vienna and Hutter taking 17th at WPT Bay 101.

GPI 300 Top 10

Ole Schemion stays out in front this week in the overall GPI rankings, the 13th-straight week he��s held the position.

It was a quiet week overall for those at the top. Stephen Chidwick moved up from No. 10 to No. 6 after finishing second in the Macau Poker Cup 22 HK$80,000 High Roller last week. And Sorel Mizzi moved back up into the top 10, going from No. 18 to No. 10 after finishing fourth in the aforementioned WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars event.

Welcome to the GPI Top 300

A dozen new players find spots inside the overall GPI Top 300 this week, with Russell Thomas the highest-ranked among them at No. 222 after having finished runner-up behind Steve O��Dwyer in the Macau Poker Cup 22 HK$20,000 No-Limit Hold��em event.

Chris Moorman is also among those in this week��s Top 300, his 18th-place finish at WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars allowing him to rejoin the list after being away since late 2014. Moorman��s highest ever GPI ranking was at No. 8 for a couple of weeks in December 2011.

Biggest Gains

Other newcomers in this week��s GPI Top 300 represent the biggest gainers among the group this week, with Ryan Julius enjoying the biggest upward move from No. 539 all of the way to No. 284 after his 12th-place showing at WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars.

Biggest Drops

Finally, among players slipping yet retaining spots in the Top 300, Ray Qartomy fell the furthest this week, dropping from No. 221 to No. 282.
