2015 PokerStars.net ANZPT Sydney Day 1a: Sayed Jabbour Bags the Lead
Season 7 of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour continued on Thursday as Day 1a of ANZPT Sydney began at The Star in New South Wales, Australia.
This AU$2,300 buy-in event is always one of the most popular in the region, and the first of two Day 1 flights did not disappoint as 188 players hit the tables.
After seven 60-minute levels, there were 84 survivors, and it was Sayed Jabbour who emerged as the chip leader with a stack of 157,400. ANZPT Adelaide champ Octavian Voegele, meanwhile, finished with 121,400 which was good for the second largest stack overall.

Jabbour is no stranger to the poker room at The Star in Sydney. He's a cash-game regular and told us he has put in many hours at these tables. Jabbour found a large portion of his chips on Day 1a in a classic race, with his AxKx trumping QxQx in a big all-in preflop situation.
Voegele's story was a little more exciting than Jabbour's. He held 9x9x on a 9x9x6x flop and was fortunate to cooler Tommy Vo who held 6x6x. The interesting story here, however, is that Voegele and Vo play in a home game together back in their home town and are roommates while travelling to ANZPT Sydney.
Some of the others who survived and will be joining Jabbour and Voegele at the felt on Day 2 include Dominic Coombe, Ken Demlakian, Didier Guerin, Ryan Hong, Anthony Legg, and Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang.
There were plenty of others who werent as fortunate as the Day 1a survivors with players like Daniel Neilson, Ricky Kroesen, John Caridad, andrecent APPT Auckland champ Minh Nguyen all eliminated throughout the day. Nguyen hit the rail when his KxKx ran into Andrew Dales' AxAx.
The players who did survive Day 1a will now return to the felt from 12:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, while a new batch players will hit the tables for the second and final Day 1 flight from 12:30 p.m. on Friday. Be sure to return then as PokerNews continue to provide live updates of ANZPT Sydney.
