UK & Ireland PokerNews Round-Up: Exciting Times Are Ahead
The first week of February �C can you believe we're in February already? �C has been one of exciting news, tournament wins and big scores. If you've not been visiting our UK & Ireland-facing PokerNews portal during the past seven days, you can catch up with all the goings on in this handy round-up.
Late on Sunday night, veteran poker player Victor Ilyukhin won the first leg of the 2015 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) in the British capital, London. Ilyukhin is a regular on the UK live circuit, more often than not playing alongside his son, also called Victor. Ilyukhin Snr is now ��82,600 (approx. $126,600) richer thanks to walking away with the title of GUKPT London champion.
Also helping himself to a big score this week was online grinder Andy "andyh26" Holman who walked away with a cool $75,460 after finishing as runner-up in the latest edition of the Super Tuesday. British players have enjoyed lots of success in this $1,050 buy-in online event with Nik Persaud winning it outright the week before.
Keeping with online poker, the PokerStars Turbo Championship Of Online Poker (TCOOP) concluded on Sunday with its $2 million guaranteed Main Event. At its final table were a trio of British grinders. "basil86" finished fifth and collected $117826.36, Ben Spraggons busted fourth for $159,412.12 and "PitBully01" won $228,721.76 by finishing third! Away from the virtual felt and into the live arena we go with the news of the 2015 Genting Poker Series kicking off at Birmingham and Shaf Rahman claiming the early chip lead. Also in the live poker world, Rob Yong, owner of the Dusk Till Dawn poker club in Nottingham, looks set to launch a new live poker tour in the UK, one that has a ��250,000 guaranteed prize pool despite only commanding a ��50 buy-in. Yong and the DTD recently signed a multi-year branding agreement with partypoker in a move that Yong says will stimulate the grass roots poker in the UK. Exciting times are ahead.
