Dusk Till Dawn Announces a $1 Million Guarantee Grand Prix in May
Rob Yong and his management team at Dusk Till Dawn (DTD) are creating huge waves in the poker world by announcing the plan for a low $120 buy-in tournament with a huge $1 million guarantee called the Grand Prix Million, taking place from May 15-25, 2015 at Dusk Till Dawn Poker & Casino Nottingham in the United Kingdom.
To put this into perspective, in order to reach the hefty $1 million guarantee, the tournament would need to attract at least 10,000 players, which is more than double than the 4,932 players participating in the largest-ever DTD Grand Prix that took place in 2013.
Earlier in the month, DTD announced a multi-year marketing partnership with partypoker, where partypoker would host online satellites in a dedicated tab on its poker client and DTD would be splashing its online partner's branding.
The agreement could help DTD reach the guarantee as there will be satellites on the partypoker client and the site will also be hosting nine starting flights between Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 23. This is in addition to the nine starting flights running at DTD, creating a staggering total of 18 starting flights combined online and live before the second tournament day takes place on May 24 and the final day of play on May 25.
Rob Yong is understandably excited by the new tournament, and hopes this will be one that enters the record books. "This is a huge target, but I believe it is possible," said Yong when asked about his ambitious project. "I remember the first-ever Grand Prix in September 2010 with a 50 buy-in and a 40,000 guarantee requiring 800 entrants. We broke the UK record, and it was one of our proudest moments. So five years later, to achieve 10,000 entries and a $1 million prize pool would be simply amazing."
Poker players have an incentive to qualify into this potentially historic poker tournament online at partypoker, since the first 1,000 players that qualify via this path will receive a Golden Chip. Any player with a Golden Chip that reaches the final table will not only win a decent share of the at least $1 million on the line, but an additional $25,000 as well.
Partypoker is also thrilled about the Grand Prix and the potential some its players can strike it big. "We are all very excited about this Grand Prix Million," said partypokers Grace McMillan. "Partypoker wants to make this experience as much fun as possible for the players. It will be great to meet so many of our online qualifiers face to face. What a story it would be if the winner qualified for one cent and also won a $25,000 Golden Chip bonus."
