Find Your Place in Poker History at the PokerNews Cup in February 0001

January is typically a month where high-stakes live players have a full schedule.

The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) Main Event just crowned American poker player Kevin Schulz as its champion, and the Aussie Millions schedule kicked off on Jan. 14 and runs through the rest of the month.

February should be renamed the month for lower-stakes players, thanks to the PokerNews Cup celebrating its eighth birthday at King's Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic, with an action-packed schedule from Feb. 4-9, 2015.

The 2015 PokerNews Cup features a 250 buy-in Main Event with a huge 200,000 guarantee, a 120 opening event with a 20,000 guarantee, and a 5,000 guaranteed closure tournament available for as low as 85. You can click here for more details about the schedule.

While the 250 buy-in is reasonable to most players, PokerNews is sending as many online qualifiers as possible to its very own live poker series. The 2015 PokerNews Cup Unibet Rake Race is wrapping up today, and we will be hosting a new round of qualifiers on RedBet Poker starting from Monday, Jan. 19.

History of the PokerNews Cup

The PokerNews Cup has a long and interesting history. The first-ever PokerNews Cup took place at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia, in 2007, where we witnessed over 1,500 participants from 22 different countries battling it out during an exciting nine-day poker festival.

While Australia's Dory Zayner was crowned the winner of the inaugural PokerNews Cup Main Event for 209,000, the talk at the time was the PokerNews Australian Bad Boys of Poker $10,000 Invitational event, where 10 of the best players in the world, including 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Mark Vos, six-time WSOP bracelet winner Jeff Lisandro, and PokerNews Ltd. Chairman, and world renowned bad boy, Tony G were having fun talking trash and playing poker.

During 2008, we witnessed two more editions of the PokerNews Cup, with Darren Kramer winning the year's first Main Event for 112,000 before the series came back to Australia. There, it was Nali Kaselias who won the Main Event's 216,000 top prize.

There were also two PokerNews Cups in 2009, with Marc Naalden winning the first in Vienna, Austria, for 46,464 before the action returned to Australia for the third time, and Con Taspounis bagged a 174,000 victory after winning the Main Event.

The series then took a five-year break before making a triumphant return to the Montesino Casino in Vienna, Austria, in October 2014. Austria's Hanh Tran found himself on top of a three-way chop in the Main Event bringing home a healthy 19,010 for his efforts.

This year's PokerNews Cup is now less than a month away. Why not plan to join us and head to the city of Rozvadov, Czech Republic, and see if you can find your way into the PokerNews Cup history books!
