This past week has witnessed the return of the man referred to as the "Great Dane" in the poker community, Gus Hansen, to the virtual felt at Full Tilt for the first time since late September.

During this time, Hansen's Full Tilt sponsorship deal was bought to an end by the poker room, and the player seemed to have taken a small break from his online activities.

According to the HighstakesDB, Hansen has lost over $20 million lifetime, and is down nearly $5.5 million this year alone. At first, it appeared his return was going to add to both of these numbers, but Hansen was able to turn things around.

Hansen lost $132,000 playing 2-7 triple draw and 8-game mix the first four days of his return from Nov. 24 to Nov. 27. Unwilling to give up and eager cut his losses, Hansen started to rebound just about when the clock turned to midnight against the likes of "Sanlker," "Trueteller," and Patrik "FinddaGrind" Antonius. On Nov. 28, Hansen won back all he lost and then some, bringing his five-day win total to $56,560.

However, Hansen will need quite a comeback in the last month of the year in order to erase his standing as the biggest loser of 2014. As it stands, Phil "Polarizing" Ivey is the second biggest loser this year with losses exceeding $1.9 million.

On the other end of the spectrum, Daniel "jungleman12" Cates and Mikael "punting-peddler" Thuritz are the only two players winning more than $2 million on the year, with Antonius doing his best to join this club.

Here are the top five biggest winners and losers in 2014 with one month to go:
