MSPT Firekeepers Casino Day 1c: Nik Stone Bags Lead
The Mid-States Poker Tour Firekeepers Casino continued Saturday with the third Day 1 starting flight. After 14 levels of play, 40 players made their way through to Day 2. Entries closed following the break after the end of level nine and, as expected, it was another large day for entries and the final number for Day 1c was 215.
Of the 40 moving on, Nik Stone leads the way with a healthy 290,000 in chips. Michael Griebe finished second in chips and bagged up 283,000. Thomas Klein (267,500), Henry Tran (228,000) and Richard Tapper (213,500) are also advancing with nice stacks. Other notables advancing to Day 2 are Jean Gaspard (183,500) and Patrick Steele (78,000).
Griebe's ascent began late in the day when he coolered Michael Ross. After a raise to 2,600 from under the gun, Ross three-bet to 7,000 from the cutoff. Griebe four-bet to 18,000 from the small blind. The original raiser got out of the way and Ross moved all in. Griebe quickly called and tabled A?A?, much to the dismay of Ross who turned over K?K?.
The board ran out Q?8?10?J?8? and Griebe raked the big double.
Ross still managed to make it through the day with 144,000, but those who were less fortunate and failed to advance included Nick Guagenti, Allen Kessler, D.J. MacKinnon, Nick Kost and Bill Romer.
Day 2 will begin bright and early on Sunday and a total of 98 players have advanced on to the second and final day of action.
