2014 World Poker Tour Legends of Poker Day 1b: Grippo Grabs Hold of the Chip Lead

Nick Grippo

After Day 1a of the World Poker Tour Legends of Poker from The Bicycle Casino attracted 156 entries with 52 advancing, Day 1b added another 178 to the field. Of that bunch, 76 survived with Nick Grippo leading the pack with 272,400 in chips.

Grippo surpassed the 217,800 that Randy Bowie amassed on Day 1a, meaning he'll be the current pacesetter going forth.

According to the WPT Live Updates team, Grippo secured his lead thanks to a late-day extension during Level 10 with the blinds at 500/1,000/100.

After a player in middle position opened with a raise to 2,300, Grippo called behind, and the flop came down K?8?4?. Grippo was faced with a continuation bet from his opponent for 3,000 and called. Then, the 7? landed on the turn, and the first player checked. Grippo bet 6,000, and his opponent called. The river completed the board with the K? to pair it up with cowboys. The first player bet 6,000, and then Grippo raised to 40,000. His opponent called, but couldn't beat Grippo's 7?7? for a full house.

Jeff Loiacono (240,800), Ryan Rivers (214,800), and Jordan Cristos (157,900) all bagged up nice stacks, and Cristos did so after busting out on Day 1a. He's the reigning champion of this event.

Some of those who fell on Day 1b were Christina Lindley, Andy Frankenberger, Curt Kohlberg, Jesse Martin, Shane Schleger, Tom Marchese, Joseph Cheong, and Layne Flack.

Day 1c will begin at 1 p.m. local time on Monday, and you can find a recap of play at day's end right here on PokerNews.
