WSOP What to Watch For: Glantz Early Pace-Setter in $50K Poker Players Championship
There will be four bracelet events in action today as the 2014 World Series of Poker reaches the end of its fourth week of nonstop poker. A couple of the lower buy-in no-limit holdem events will be continuing today, with one scheduled to play down to a winner. Meanwhile the Event #46: $50,000 Poker Players Championship will surely grab headlines as play continues through Day 2 of the five-day tournament, while one new event an ante only NLHE tournament gets started.
Heres a rundown of what to watch for as Day 28 of the 2014 WSOP plays out today.
Event #44: $1,500 No-Limit Holdem
Just 15 are left from a starting field of 1,914 in Event #44: $1,500 No-Limit Holdem, with Brandon Ageloff returning today as the only player among those who remain with a seven-figure stack after ending last night bagging 1,007,000.
Ageloff is making his third WSOP cash this summer and of his career with his highest previous cash being just over $5K, quite a bit less than the $478,102 first prize awaiting todays Event #44 winner. Just about one big blind behind Ageloff in the counts to start today will be Ray Foley (993,000) who has tasted significant success at the WSOP before, winning a bracelet in another $1,500 NLHE event back in 2009.
Among the others still remaining, Jordan Morgan with more than 20 WSOP cashes and two previous final tables is part of the chase pack (in fourth, 773,000), Vinny Pahuja is making his fifth cash of the summer and hopes to make a second final table (seventh, 572,000), and three British players European Poker Tour and World Poker Tour champion Roberto Romanello (10th, 458,000), Ryan Spittles (11th, 453,000), and Alexander Zeligman (14th, 243,000) hope to deny the Americans comprising the rest of the remaining field another bracelet for the U.S.
Play resumes at 1 p.m. PDT, so begin checking the Event #44 live updates then to see who wins the next WSOP bracelet.
Event #45: $1,000 No-Limit Holdem
Meanwhile Event #45: $1,000 No-Limit Holdem moves into its second day of play today after 1,841 starters played down into the money and just 144 players on Sunday. Jonathan Bodden returns to the chip lead today with 145,000, with Loren Klein (122,800) and Lily Kiletto (100,000) next in the counts, all positioned well to continue forward in the battle for the bracelet and $306,634 first prize.
Ari Engel returns to a stack of 98,700, good for fifth position to start the day, while Matt Woodward (11th, 88,400), Hoyt Corkins (16th, 69,500), and Nick Rampone (22nd, 66,000) will also be coming back to above average stacks.

Event #46: $50,000 Poker Players Championship
Most eyes today will be on Day 2 of the $50K PPC, a five-day tournament that still has a couple of hours of late registration left to go today. So far 85 have entered, with 80 of those who entered so far still remaining. The prize pool has yet to be determined, as has the first-place money that will be going to the winner along with the bracelet and the David Chip Reese Memorial Trophy.
Matt Glantz returns to the chip lead today with 324,700, followed by Dylan Linde (second, 303,700), Richard Ashby (third, 300,000), Shaun Deeb (fourth, 282,600), and Alexandre Luneau (fifth, 273,900). Last years $50K PPC champion Matthew Ashton isnt far behind that group (in seventh, 263,000), with the 2010 and 2012 $50K PPC champion Michael Mizrachi just behind him (in eighth, 254,900).
As to be expected, there are many notables and decorated pros all up and down the counts in this one, including Phil Hellmuth (currently in 58th of 80), Daniel Negreanu (63rd), and Phil Ivey (74th) who are each returning to below average stacks.
They get going again at 2 p.m. Vegas time today in the $50K, which is when you can start refreshing those Event #46 live updates.
