WPT Rolling Thunder Day 2: Bubble Bursts; Bryan Campanello Leads Final 24
On Monday, the remaining 191 players of a 465-player field returned for Day 2 action in the Season XII World Poker Tour (WPT) Rolling Thunder at the Thunder Valley Casino, a four-diamond casino resort located in the greater Sacramento area in Northern California.
After 10 one-hour levels of play, just 24 players remained with 2013 World Series of Poker bracelet winner Bryan Campanello and his stack of 1.436 million leading the way. Others still in contention for the $302,750 first-place prize are Benjamin Zamani, Ryan DAngelo, and Dylan Hortin, just to name a few.
Place | Player | Count |
---|---|---|
1 | Bryan Campanello | 1,436,000 |
2 | Chad Eveslage | 1,390,000 |
3 | Benjamin Zamani | 1,350,000 |
4 | Preston Harwell | 945,000 |
5 | Ryan DAngelo | 751,000 |
6 | Dylan Hortin | 691,000 |
7 | Michael Crabtree | 691,000 |
8 | James Calderaro | 686,000 |
9 | Quoc Pham | 674,000 |
10 | Ken Jorgensen | 595,000 |
According to the WPT Live Updates Team, action resumed in Level 11 (600/1,200/200) and it didnt take long for players to be bounced. Among the first to go was WPT Raw Deal analyst Tony Dunst. In his final hand, Dunst opened for 2,500 under the gun only to have the cutoff three-bet to 10,800. Action folded back to Dunst, he moved all in for roughly 33,000, and his opponent snap-called.
Dunst: AxKx
Cutoff: A?A?
It was a terrible spot for Dunst, and he watched helplessly as the board ran out a dry 6x4x2x8xKx.
Others who ended up leaving empty handed were Harrison Gimbel, Isaac Baron, Faraz Jaka, Ebony Kenney, Galen Hall, John Racener, Jason Koon, Jeff Gross, Jeff Madsen, Andrew Lichtenberger, Ben Hamnett, Aaron Massey, Andy Frankenberger, Scott Clements, Scotty Nguyen, and Jordan Cristos.
Cristos, who was recently featured in our WPT on FSN Legends of Poker recap, actually finished as the bubble boy. It happened in Level 18 (3,000/6,000/1,000) with 55 players remaining. Ken Jorgensen opened from early position and then called when Cristos moved all in for 65,000 from the small blind.
Cristos: A?Q?
Jorgensen: A?K?
Cristos had some major kicker problems because he was dominated by Jorgensen, and things only got worse when the K?9?3? flop paired Jorgensens king. The 4? turn left Cristos drawing dead, and after the 2? was run out on the river for good measure, the remaining 54 players were guaranteed at least $6,770.
From there, the in-the-money eliminations mounted and included Blake Barousse (54th - $6,770), Nam Le (53rd - $6,770), Allen Kessler (42nd - $8,000), Brandon Cantu (40th - $8,000), Joe Serock (39th - $8,000), Jesse Sylvia (38th - $8,000), Bobby Oboodi (35th - $9,390), Calvin Anderson (31st - $9,390), and Kevin Eyster (25th - $10,930).
Eyster fell in Level 20 (5,000/10,000/1,000) when he got his stack all in preflop holding the A?10? and was up against the A?K? of Chad Eveslage. The K?K?8? flop gave Eveslage trips, which meant Eyster needed either running straight or flush cards. Unfortunately for him, both the turn and river blanked and Eyster became the last elimination of the night while Eveslage went on to bag the second biggest stack.
Others who will be returning for Day 3 are David Forster (537,000), Keven Stammen (453,000), Mimi Luu (400,000), Brian Park (354,000), JC Tran (278,000), Randy Gil (245,000), and Ed Miller (232,000).
Day 3 is set to kick off at 12 p.m. PT on Tuesday with the plan of playing down to the final table of six. Well bring you a full recap of the days action here on PokerNews upon completion of play.
